Job summary

Shaw Services Company in Denver, CO is hiring a Self Perform Layout Technician to support our concrete and framing operations along the Colorado Front Range. You will perform concrete layout, staking, and formwork verification, plus field QC, with a mix of office and on-site duties on large commercial projects.

Required are 5+ years in construction layout or surveying, solid knowledge of concrete systems, AutoCAD and Trimble tools, and a drive to collaborate with engineers, estimators, and

Qualifications

• 5+ years of construction layout, staking, or field surveying experience, preferring self-perform concrete, framing, or heavy civil work.
• Solid knowledge of concrete systems, formwork, and shoring.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Trimble tools; Civil 3D or MicroStation a plus.
• Degree in surveying, civil engineering, or construction management is a plus, not required.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, Procore, Bluebeam, Navisworks, or BIM360 is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform concrete layout, staking, and formwork verification, plus general project layout and QC checks.
• Calculate points and load Trimble stations; set control using AutoCAD; coordinate embed, hold-down, and penetration layout.
• Support estimating with quantity take-offs, constructability reviews, and scope coordination.
• Coordinate Concrete Lift Drawings and formwork design planning with key trades (Geotech, civil, steel, framing, masonry).
• Perform routine field inspections during construction to support the QA/QC program.
• Utilize robotic total stations, optical/digital levels, GPS equipment, and data collectors.
• Document and address quality issues promptly, and communicate across the project team — PMs, PEs, subcontractors, and inspectors.
• Train and mentor Shaw team members and concrete/framing crew as needed.

Shaw Construction is hiring a Self Perform Layout Technician to support our Self Perform Concrete and Framing operations across the Colorado Front Range / Mountain Region. This role covers concrete layout, staking, and formwork verification, along with quality control and quantity take-off support from early estimating through construction close-out — a great fit for someone who wants variety across office and field work on large, complex commercial projects.

What You'll Do:

• Perform concrete layout, staking, and formwork verification, plus general project layout and QC compliance checks
• Calculate points and load Trimble stations; set control using AutoCAD; coordinate embed, hold-down, and penetration layout
• Support estimating with quantity take-offs, constructability reviews, and scope coordination
• Coordinate Concrete Lift Drawings and formwork design planning with key trades (Geotech, civil, steel, framing, masonry)
• Perform routine field inspections during construction to support the QA/QC program
• Utilize robotic total stations, optical/digital levels, GPS equipment, and data collectors
• Document and address quality issues promptly, and communicate across the project team — PMs, PEs, subcontractors, and inspectors
• Train and mentor Shaw team members and concrete/framing crew as needed
• Collaborate with Shaw's BIM and Framing Panel Design departments as needed

What We're Looking For:

• 5+ years of construction layout, staking, or field surveying experience — background in self-perform concrete, framing, or heavy civil construction preferred
• Solid working knowledge of concrete systems, formwork, and shoring
• Comfortable with AutoCAD, Trimble Access/Business Center; Civil 3D or MicroStation a plus
• Associate or Bachelor's degree in surveying, civil engineering, or construction management a plus, not required
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Procore, Bluebeam, Navisworks, or BIM360 a plus
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (required)
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
• OSHA 10 required (OSHA 30 a bonus)
• Physical ability to climb stairs/ladders, work on active construction sites, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs

Pay:

$80,000 – $110,000/year, depending on experience and licensure
