City of Chicago is seeking a Seasonal Concrete Laborer to support the Division of In-House Construction in removing and replacing sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and related structures. This role requires strenuous manual labor and attention to safety on street and site work.
Position offers daytime hours, a public opening and bid-based seniority selection in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. Training at the Chicagoland Laborers Center will be provided upon hire.

This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with County, Municipal Supervisors and Foremen Local 1001 (Bargaining unit 54). Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.
Under immediate supervision, performs physically demanding manual labor relating to the laying and finishing of concrete for the construction, installation and repair of new or existing sidewalks, curbs and gutters, ramps and related construction projects, and performs related duties as required

Location: 1501 W. Pershing
Hours: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
Days: Typically, Monday - Friday

Licensure. Certification, or other Qualifications
This is a non-interview title and WILL NOT REQUIRE A TEST. Bidders who APPLY CORRECTLY will be selected in seniority order according to the collective bargaining agreement. Non-Bidders who APPLY CORRECTLY will be hired in lottery/random order.
New hires will be sent to the Chicagoland Laborers Training and Apprentice Center for a one-week initial job training course. You must successfully complete the training course to remain employed by the Department of Transportation.
APPLICATION EVALUATION: The initial evaluation will be based on information provided in the application and the documents submitted. Department of Human Resources staff will review applications after the final posting date. Staff will follow all required Employment/Hiring Plan provisions, federal, state, and local laws, and, when applicable, Collective Bargaining Agreements. Staff will apply hiring preferences as required by the municipal code. Placement on an eligibility list is not an offer or guarantee of an interview nor employment with the City of Chicago.
