Job description

Under general supervision, the concrete finisher works with the jobsite team to smooth and finish surfaces of poured concrete structures to specified textures.

Responsibilities

1. Complies with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures in the performance of assigned tasks.
2. Facilitates the pouring of concrete by positioning the delivery truck.
3. Moves the discharge chute of the truck to direct concrete into forms.
4. Spreads concrete into inaccessible sections of forms with a rake or shovel.
5. Levels concrete to the specified depth and workable consistency, using a handheld screed and floats to bring water to the surface and produce a smooth topping.
6. Smoothes and shapes surfaces of freshly poured concrete.
7. Finishes concrete surfaces, or wets and rubs concrete with abrasive stones to impart a finish.
8. Removes rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces and patches holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound.
9. Molds expansion joints and edges.
10. Sprinkles colored stone chips, powdered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce the prescribed finish.
11. Produces a rough concrete surface with a broom.
12. Mixes cement with a hoe or concrete-mixing machine.
13. Directs sub-grade work, mixing of concrete, and setting of forms.
14. Breaks up and repairs old concrete surfaces.
15. Builds and lays out forms as required according to specifications, making calculations depending on grades.
16. Fills forms with fill material and compacts with a tamper or compactor to bring to the required grade.
17. Ties and fabricates rebar for vertical and below-grade concrete structures.
18. Cleans the work site of tools, debris, and equipment.
