Job summary

A local road construction company is seeking Concrete Finishers and Laborers to perform a wide range of duties including placing forms, installing fixtures, and polishing concrete surfaces. Candidates should have knowledge of working with concrete and practical skills in using power tools. Physical ability to work outdoors in extreme temperatures and lift heavy materials is required. Qualifications

• Physical ability to stand long periods of time, bend and crouch to perform job duties.
• Ability to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
• Ability to lift heavy materials and work long hours.

Responsibilities

• Placing forms that hold concrete to ensure the required depth and pitch is achieved.
• Removing edges on expansion joints and sides.
• Installing anchor bolts, steel plates and other fixtures in freshly poured concrete.
• Polishing surfaces using smoothing materials, abrasive tools and surfacing machines.
• Aligning forms for sidewalks, curbs and gutters.
• Waterproofing, damp-proofing and restoring concrete surfaces.
• Signaling truck drivers and moving chutes to facilitate pouring concrete onto forms.
• Casting and spreading concrete to patch voids.
• Applying hardening and sealing compounds to cure the surface of concrete.

Skills

Knowledge of working with concrete

Practical skills to operate power tools and machinery

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plans

Pour, level and smooth concrete for surfaces such as roads, curbs, sidewalks

Operate concrete saw, curb and/or paving machine

Seal joints, set string line
