The job requires skills in edge removal, polishing, form alignment, waterproofing, compaction, and finishing patterns. You will also coordinate with truck drivers and assist with training team members for tool use and pouring operations.

Qualifications

• Experience with setting forms to achieve correct depth and pitch.
• Ability to monitor heat, wind and cold effects on curing for quality results.
• Knowledge of edges on expansion joints, anchors, and fixtures in fresh concrete.

Responsibilities

• Place forms to shape concrete with correct depth and pitch.
• Monitor curing conditions and adjust as needed for quality.
• Remove edges on joints and install anchors and fixtures.
• Polish surfaces using smoothing tools and machines.
• Align forms for sidewalks, curbs and gutters.
• Apply waterproofing or damp-proofing where required.
• Compact materials to remove voids and ensure density.
• Finish concrete with desired patterns (rough or smooth).
• Signal equipment operators to manage pouring operations.
• Cast and spread concrete to fill voids and level surfaces.
• Apply hardening and sealing compounds for curing.
• Supervise and train workers on use of spreaders and tools.

Concrete finishers are responsible for a wide range of duties that may change depending on the type of project they are working on and the team members they are working with.

Here are some of the key job duties of a concrete finisher:

• Placing forms that hold concrete to ensure the required depth and pitch is achieved
• Monitoring the effects of heat, wind, and cold on concrete curing to ensure high-quality results
• Removing edges on expansion joints and sides; installing anchor bolts, steel plates, and other fixtures in freshly poured concrete
• Polishing surfaces using smoothing materials, abrasive tools and surfacing machines
• Aligning forms for sidewalks, curbs and gutters
• Waterproofing, damp-proofing and restoring concrete surfaces
• Compacting materials
• Finishing concrete surfaces with rough or smooth patterns depending on the customer's preference
• Signaling truck drivers and moving chutes to facilitate pouring concrete onto forms
• Casting and spreading concrete to patch voids
• Applying hardening and sealing compounds to cure the surface of concrete
• Supervising and training workers to help them use special tools to spread concrete
