Position Summary

The Bartender is responsible for service of all beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. They must be personable, professional, and able to work in an ever changing fast-paced environment. The employee must maintain excellent attendance and be available to work events as scheduled per business need.

This role pays an hourly wage of $9 to $11, plus tips.

About the Venue

PPL Center is a state-of-the-art multipurpose arena in downtown Allentown, PA and home of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. The arena seats more than 10,000 for concerts and more than 8,500 for Lehigh Valley Phantoms professional hockey games, making it the region’s largest events venue.

The amenities-packed PPL Center hosts more than 150 events each year, offering something for everyone, including the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the AHL affiliate of the NHL Philadelphia Flyers, live concerts, family shows, trade shows, youth sports, high school and collegiate events, conferences, graduations, and so many more.

Responsibilities
  • Must demonstrate ability to meet the company standard for excellence in the areas of guest service, interaction with co-workers, and uniform standards.
  • Take pride in personal appearance; reporting to work in neat and clean clothing; maintaining well-groomed hair and personal hygiene as established by company policy.
  • Responsible for greeting guests in a respectful and friendly manner that enhances the customers experience in our facility.
  • Conduct the cash register sales by entering the orders and completing the transaction. Ability to cash handle accurately is required. The Cashier is responsible for the issued bank at their register.
  • Follow the bar pre-shift notes and bar menus and provide service as described.
  • Serve alcoholic beverages following all proper procedures for serving alcoholic drinks including state/federal/venue regulations pertaining to the distribution of alcohol.
  • Responsible to learn or have knowledge of various beer, wine varieties, and spirits available, and be able to learn to suggestively upsell products to guests.
  • Must pour drinks responsibly in accordance with venue/company standards for serving size. (No free-pouring)
  • Must check guest’s ID’s in accordance with state/federal/venue/company regulations to verify minimum age requirement for the purchase of alcoholic beverages.
  • Responsible for recognizing guests that are visibly intoxicated and taking action to cut off alcohol to such individuals.
  • Listening and responding to any customer requests or concerns, and directing them to a Supervisor or Manager as necessary.
  • Bartenders are expected to de-escalate intoxicated guest situations. If a guest becomes confrontational, belligerent, or uses extreme profanity, the bartender may contact management or security as required.
  • Contact a management member if unable to resolve or make a decision beyond the scope of standard decision-making.
  • Request additional product or restock product as required in a timely manner prior to running out.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary work station at all times, following all health code regulations, and ensure that the bar equipment is clean and well maintained.
  • Additional duties as assigned such as set-up and breakdown of bar equipment as required and assisting with organization of the cooler or as assigned by supervisors or management.
  • Must show demonstrated ability to meet the company standard for excellent attendance.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be 18 or over.
  • Six (6) months or more experience bartending
  • Previous cash handling experience preferred.
  • Ability to learn to handle cash and learn to operate a cash register and corresponding system accurately.
  • Possess valid food handling certificate and RAMP certification if required by state and federal regulations (or be willing to obtain one within a 60 day time-frame from date of hire).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a friendly, positive attitude with co-workers, management staff, volunteers and guests.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, some holidays and long hours.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
