Job summary

Muon Space in San Jose, CA is seeking a Software Engineer specializing in Computer Vision and Machine Learning. You will design and deploy image processing models powering ground and onboard systems, with a strong emphasis on low latency and edge/cloud deployment.

You will also own the image and ML data engineering foundation, collaborate with mission teams, and drive verification and performance tests. Requires 3+ years in ML/image systems, PyTorch, Python, AWS, and willingness to obtain a U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related technical field.
• 3+ years of professional experience in image computation or ML systems.
• Strong PyTorch skills for end-to-end model design, training, and evaluation.
• Production experience with low-latency image models deployed as containerized workloads on cloud infra (AWS preferred).
• Hands-on ML data engineering: data curation, labeling, and versioning for training and evaluation.
• Strong Python skills beyond notebooks; production-ready code.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; cross-functional leadership.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance; active clearance is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, train, evaluate, and iterate on image processing models for Muon's ground and onboard systems.
• Build and own the image and ML data engineering foundation.
• Optimize algorithms for low latency on cloud and edge deployments.
• Contribute to high-performance reference algorithms and benchmarks.
• Hand off to the cloud serving stack and work with mission teams to define requirements.
• Own verification and validation including tests.
