I'm currently partnered with a rapidly growing defense technology startup developing next-generation autonomous systems designed to operate in highly dynamic real-world environments. The company vertically integrates hardware and software to build advanced robotic platforms leveraging computer vision, embedded systems, controls, and electromechanical design to solve complex national security challenges.

The position can either be performed on-site in San Jose, on-site in Austin, or for exceptional candidates, remotely with travel, depending on performance throughout interview process.
What You’ll Do:
- Design, develop, and deploy real-time computer vision and perception systems for autonomous platforms
- Build object detection, tracking, classification, and scene understanding pipelines for dynamic operating environments
- Develop and improve multi-sensor perception systems incorporating cameras, LiDAR, radar, and other sensors
- Work closely with robotics, controls, and embedded engineering teams to integrate perception outputs into autonomous systems
- Develop and optimize machine learning and deep learning models for deployment on edge hardware
- Improve system robustness across varying environmental conditions including lighting, weather, motion blur, and occlusion
- Build tools and workflows for dataset generation, model training, validation, and performance evaluation
- Support field testing, troubleshooting, and performance analysis of deployed systems
- Contribute to the architecture and long-term technical roadmap of the perception stack
What They’re Looking For:
- Strong background in computer vision, robotics, machine learning, or a related technical discipline
- Deep understanding of object detection, tracking, SLAM, localization, sensor fusion, or related computer vision techniques
- Strong Python and/or C++ programming skills
- Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV, or similar frameworks
- Experience deploying perception systems onto real-world robotic or autonomous platforms
- Strong understanding of camera systems, calibration, image processing, and sensor integration
- Experience working with large-scale datasets and machine learning model development
- Ability to move between research, prototyping, deployment, and field testing
Nice to Have:
- Experience with autonomous systems, robotics, UAVs, UGVs, or defense technologies
- Experience with embedded AI deployment, TensorRT, ONNX, CUDA, or hardware acceleration
- Familiarity with ROS/ROS2 and robotics software frameworks
- Experience with multi-object tracking, visual odometry, SLAM, or state estimation
- Experience deploying perception systems in degraded or GPS-denied environments
- Startup or high-growth engineering experience
