Clarapath, a medical robotics company in Westchester County, NY, seeks a Computer Vision Engineer to advance SectionStar and TrimStar Pro platforms. You will drive vision algorithms from data collection to deployment, collaborating with hardware, software, and manufacturing teams.

You will apply deep learning and image processing to automate laboratory workflows, improve accuracy, and ensure regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Applied Mathematics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in computer vision, image processing, ML, or related systems.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++.
  • Experience with OpenCV and ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Experience developing, training, evaluating, and deploying ML models.
  • Familiarity with ISO 13485 and medical device development practices is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and optimize computer vision and image processing algorithms for medical robotics and automated laboratory systems.
  • Design vision-based solutions for object detection, segmentation, tracking, registration, measurement, inspection, and alignment.
  • Develop and deploy machine learning models for image analysis and automated decision-making.
  • Collect, curate, annotate, and analyze image datasets to support model development.
  • Evaluate model performance using metrics and real-world datasets.
  • Integrate vision algorithms with robotic, mechanical, electrical, and software systems.
  • Prototype and test algorithms using lab equipment and production hardware.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate system requirements into computer vision solutions.
  • Maintain technical documentation and participate in design reviews and V&V activities.

Role Summary

The Computer Vision Engineer will play a key role in the development, integration, and continuous improvement of computer vision systems for Clarapath’s advanced SectionStar™ and TrimStar Pro™ platforms. This individual will contribute to all phases of the product development lifecycle, from algorithm development and data collection through model training, testing, validation, deployment, and continuous improvement in the field. Working closely with mechanical, electrical, embedded software, manufacturing, quality, and customer-facing teams, the Computer Vision Engineer will develop robust vision-based solutions that enable accurate, reliable, and automated laboratory workflows while meeting performance, reliability, and regulatory requirements. We are seeking a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, thrives in a collaborative and fast-paced environment, and is passionate about applying computer vision, machine learning, and image processing technologies to innovative medical devices and automation systems that improve laboratory workflows and patient outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and optimize computer vision and image processing algorithms for medical robotics and automated laboratory systems
  • Design vision-based solutions for object detection, segmentation, tracking, registration, measurement, inspection, and alignment
  • Develop and deploy machine learning and deep learning models for image analysis and automated decision-making
  • Collect, curate, annotate, and analyze image datasets to support algorithm and model development
  • Evaluate model and algorithm performance using appropriate metrics, testing methodologies, and real-world datasets.
  • Integrate computer vision algorithms with robotic, mechanical, electrical, and software systems.
  • Develop solutions that operate reliably under real-world variations in lighting, positioning, imaging conditions, tissue characteristics, and system configurations
  • Prototype and test algorithms using laboratory equipment, imaging systems, and production hardware
  • Troubleshoot and optimize vision systems during development, verification, manufacturing, and field deployment
  • Collaborate with Software, Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Quality, and R&D teams to translate system requirements into practical computer vision solutions
  • Participate in design reviews, technical investigations, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Develop technical documentation, test plans, verification procedures, and other engineering documentation in accordance with medical device development practices
  • Support verification and validation activities and contribute to maintaining compliance with applicable quality and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor deployed systems and use performance data to identify opportunities for algorithm and product improvements
  • Stay current with advances in computer vision, machine learning, image processing, and AI technologies and evaluate their potential application to Clarapath products
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field
  • 5+ years of professional experience developing computer vision, image processing, machine learning, or related systems
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++
  • Experience with computer vision and image processing libraries such as OpenCV.
  • Experience developing, training, evaluating, and deploying machine learning or deep learning models.
  • Familiarity with frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar
  • Strong understanding of image processing, computer vision fundamentals, and machine learning concepts
  • Experience working with real-world imaging data and developing solutions that perform reliably outside of controlled laboratory environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work hands-on with hardware, imaging systems, and laboratory or robotic equipment
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary engineering environment
  • Willingness to work on-site in Hawthorne, NY
  • Experience with 3D computer vision, depth sensing, stereo vision, or point-cloud processing, a plus
  • Experience with object detection, image segmentation, image registration, feature extraction, or optical flow, a plus
  • Experience working with cameras, lenses, lighting systems, and image acquisition hardware, a plus
  • Experience integrating computer vision systems with robotics or automated equipment, a plus
  • Experience with NVIDIA GPUs, CUDA, TensorRT, or edge AI deployment, a plus
  • Experience optimizing computer vision or machine learning models for real-time performance, a plus
  • Experience with robotic systems, motion control, or automation, a plus
  • Experience working with medical devices, laboratory automation, biomedical imaging, or regulated products, a plus
  • Familiarity with software development practices including Git, code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD, a plus
  • Experience with system-level debugging and root-cause analysis, a plus
  • Familiarity with ISO 13485, design controls, and medical device development processes, a plus
