Responsibilities

• Teach students the necessary skills/technical knowledge to become gainfully employed.
• Develop, maintain, revise competency-based computer support technology curriculum.
• Recruit students and market the program.
• Provide instruction on and access to on-the-job training; maintain records of OJT assignments.
• Develop student knowledge and awareness of industrial safety, punctuality, personal cleanliness, work ethic, customer relations, and communication skills.
• Work collaboratively with other Computer Support Instructors at HCC.
• Assist with employment placement of graduates.
• Create a safe and orderly learning environment that facilitates positive behavior and learning for all students by supporting discipline plans and consistently enforcing rules.
• Ensure student achievement for all student groups by monitoring progress through testing techniques and technology assistance.
• Build positive school/community relations by supporting the mission of the College and facilitating cooperation with all persons in the school community.
• Lead the students in developing constructive peer and student/instructor relationships and assist students in the development of thinking skills.
• Oversee effective and efficient student performance: Set high expectations for learning based on individual needs; Utilize a variety of instructional materials, activities and approaches; Develop and monitor improvement plans for students who are not meeting academic goals; Support modifications and plans as directed by student disability services.
• Practice responsible fiscal, facility, and resource management: Procuring classroom supplies and shop equipment; Establish behavior guidelines; Procure appropriate resources for teaching adopted curriculum standards.
• Model positive professional attributes by participating in professional activities; Using written and spoken language well; Handling student work in a timely and confidential manner; Maintaining classroom hours sufficient to meet job expectations.
• Follow and support improvement initiatives and state and federal mandates: Participating in target area goals interventions and activities; Compiling needed support documentation; Ensuring student mastery of adopted curriculum.
• Attend professional meetings; Select and consult with advisory committee members; Attend commencement ceremonies; Other duties as assigned

SUMMARY

The CSS Instructor will instruct and prepare students for workforce employment as computer support service personnel with the basic knowledge, understanding, and problem‑solving ability to skillfully and efficiently perform the duties of their respective jobs. The combined classroom and lab activities are oriented toward developing safety attitudes and habits, and developing leadership abilities which will aid the student in acquiring a job, maintaining that job, and advancing within his/her occupation. As many of the duties will be supervising groups of students without benefit of additional help or administrative supervision, the job requires significant self‑discipline, internal motivation, and sound judgment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
