Job description

Overview

Overview

The Senior Computer Scientist provides advanced technical expertise to support intelligence mission planning, collection, processing, exploitation, and dissemination activities across the Tasking, Collection, Production, Exploitation, and Dissemination (TCPED) lifecycle. This role applies scientific methods, computational techniques, and modern analytic technologies to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and automation of national and theater Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions.

The ideal candidate brings a broad foundation in computer science with deep experience in the practical application of data science, artificial intelligence, probabilistic modeling, and algorithm development in support of complex intelligence requirements.

Responsibilities

Advanced Analytics, Modeling & Algorithm Development

  • Employs mathematics, statistics, information science, AI/ML, network science, probability modeling, data mining, data engineering, data warehousing, data compression, and data-protection methodologies to produce high-value intelligence insights.
  • Develops and applies machine-learning and data-mining algorithms—including Multiple Information Model Synthesis Architecture (MIMOSA) prediction algorithms—to enable advanced search, discovery, and analytic capabilities.
  • Integrates, codes, and optimizes algorithms to support Government intelligence systems under hardware, software, storage, and bandwidth constraints.
  • Conducts exploratory analysis and rapid iteration across large and complex datasets to derive timely, operationally relevant intelligence findings.
  • Prepares clear and compelling graphical, written, and verbal analytic products that convey technical findings and emerging intelligence trends.

Intelligence Lifecycle Support (TCPED)

  • Applies technical tradecraft and scientific rigor across the full TCPED process to support intelligence requirements.
  • Identifies and develops automated collection criteria and collection requirements, including planning, optimization research, processing workflows, and dissemination mechanisms.
  • Develops and implements innovative processes, prototypes, and technologies to close intelligence gaps and enhance mission effectiveness.

Technology Integration & System Evaluation

  • Assists with integrating new collection management technologies, tools, and software into operational architectures.
  • Fuses complementary technologies to ensure systems function cohesively at scale.
  • Evaluates the functionality, effectiveness, and suitability of systems and applications; identifies technical shortcomings and recommends solutions.

Mission Enablement & Collaboration

  • Partners with collection management personnel to develop specialized, novel, or automated methods that support national and theater ISR missions.
  • Works closely with computer scientists, data scientists, knowledge managers, and complementary mission partners to identify procedural or technical deficiencies, recommend improvements, and implement optimized processes or automation.
  • Recommends modifications to collection management processes based on operational analysis, research findings, or emerging technologies.
  • Assess collection management initiatives and provides recommendations for continuous optimization and system/application enhancement.

Reporting, Documentation & Representation

  • Develops and implements collection-management processes that guide automation activities, supported by technical reports and formal briefings.
  • Supports and participates in conferences, exercises (planning and execution), working groups, and boards, including:
    • Joint Collection Management Board (JCMB)
    • Joint Collection Working Groups (JCWG)
    • Defense Collection Management Boards (DCMB)
    • National Collection Management Boards (NCMB)
    • Secure VTC sessions, planning forums, and technical exchanges
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI
  • Broad understanding of computer science as a discipline and deep applied expertise in intelligence-related computational methods.
  • Proven experience applying scientific and technical tradecraft across intelligence, data science, analytic, or algorithm-development missions.
  • Experience supporting ISR, collection management, or intelligence automation efforts.
  • Ability to work with large, complex datasets and develop custom algorithms or ML/AI capabilities for operational use.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex technical findings to technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MIMOSA or comparable predictive algorithms.
  • Experience working within the DoD, IC, or national-level intelligence missions.
  • Experience supporting conferences, working groups, or intelligence boards.
  • Knowledge of collection management systems, architectures, and emerging ISR technologies.
