Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Computer Operations Analyst 2/3 - Linux Systems Administrator (RHEL) to support off-net enclave environments at our Gilbert, AZ facility. Responsibilities include server administration, patching, and security compliance, with on-call support as needed.

The role requires experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, system administration tasks, and the ability to obtain a Secret clearance. Preferred candidates have ITSM experience and knowledge of RMF/STIGs.

Northrop Grumman’s CIDO Space Operations organization is seeking a qualified Computer Operations Analyst 2/3 - Linux Systems Administrator (RHEL) to provide server and systems administration support to include a high-demand, off-net/enclave production environment running primarily Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) at our Gilbert, AZ facility.

Job responsibilities will include, but is unlikely to be limited to, the following:

Core Responsibilities

• Administer, monitor, and troubleshoot server/client systems supporting offnet/enclave environments that operate behind a firewall.
• Understand and correctly apply the difference between domain‑joined (high‑trust) systems and off‑domain/standalone systems using local accounts, including appropriate account management, authentication, and security practices for each.
• Perform routine system administration tasks: account creation and management, permissions, storage, backups, and performance monitoring.
• Troubleshoot hardware, OS, and application issues; perform root cause analysis and document resolutions clearly and consistently.
• Support physical server maintenance, including racking/unracking equipment, cabling, and hardware swaps; ability to lift equipment up to 50 lbs.
• Maintain accurate records in ServiceNow (or equivalent ITSM platform), including incident, change, and asset records; ensure SLAs are met and customer expectations are managed appropriately.
• Support security compliance and vulnerability management activities, including remediation tracking using tools such as Tenable (vulnerability scanning), Armis (asset/network visibility), and ArcherGRC (governance, risk, and compliance documentation).
• Provide on‑call/after‑hours support during production‑impacting incidents and scheduled maintenance windows, as needed.
• Collaborate with engineering, security, and program teams to support IT initiatives across on‑net and offnet environments.

Linux/RHEL- Specific Responsibilities

• Administer Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers, including user/group management, file systems (LVM), and package management (yum/dnf).
• Manage patching and content delivery through Red Hat Satellite Server, including content views, activation keys, and lifecycle environments.
• Configure and maintain SELinux, systemd services, and networking on RHEL hosts.
• Support Kickstart or other automated build/provisioning processes for RHEL deployment.
• Write and maintain shell scripts to support routine administrative and monitoring tasks.

Other considerations

• Ability to work independently on routine tasks

• Support occasional on‑call/after‑hours work, as needed

Basic Qualifications for level 2:

• Master's Degree with 0 years of experience; OR a Bachelor's Degree with 2 years of experience; OR an Associate's Degree with 4 years of experience; OR a High School Diploma (or equivalent) with 6 years of experience is required
• Experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems is required
• Must have a CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or Linux+ OR must have the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire
• Candidates must have the ability to obtain a Secret level security clearance as a condition of continued employment

Basic Qualifications for level 3:

• Master's Degree with 3 years of experience; OR a Bachelor's Degree with 5 years of experience; OR an Associate's Degree with 7 years of experience; OR a High School Diploma (or equivalent) with 9 years of experience is required
• Experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems is required
• Must have a CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or Linux+ OR must have the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire
• Candidates must have the ability to obtain a Secret level security clearance as a condition of continued employment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field with 4 years of Linux/RHEL administration experience
• Two or more years of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 7/8/9) server administration in a classified, enclave, or similar secure enterprise environment
• Red Hat System Administration certification(s) (e.g., RHCSA) and/or Linux+ certification
• Experience operating under and managing systems within NISPOM Chapter 8, DCID 6/3–ICD 503, RMF, STIG, JAFAN, or JSIG information system environments
• Familiarity with DFARS and NIST information security controls
• Experience with NAS storage device administration and enterprise‑level storage concepts, including all commonly used RAID levels
• Experience with Red Hat Satellite Server configuration and usage for patch and configuration management
• Solid understanding of remediating security vulnerabilities; experience hardening Red Hat systems in accordance with RMF and STIGs, including host‑based firewall implementations and configuration (iptables or firewalld)
• Experience building custom rpm software packages for Red Hat platforms
• Scripting/automation experience (PowerShell, Bash, Python, or Ansible)
• Cross‑platform experience (Windows and Linux/RHEL)
• Experience with WSUS and/or Red Hat Satellite Server for enterprise patch management
• Experience with MECM/SCCM, Active Directory, and Group Policy administration
• Experience using ServiceNow or a similar ITSM platform for incident, change, and asset management
• Strong troubleshooting and root‑cause‑analysis skills and good written and verbal communication
• Experience supporting manufacturing or engineering operations, hardware, and software, or similar mission‑critical operational environments
• Active Secret level clearance highly desirable

Primary Level Salary Range: $72,100.00 - $108,100.00 Secondary Level Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $134,200.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
