Job description

EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF BUILDING PERMITS.

This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in various Departments as they occur.

NOTE: Selective certification of eligibles with current and extensive experience indicating a thorough knowledge of the policies, practices and procedures unique to the Department of Building Permits will be used in filling this vacancy.

The purpose of this position is to install new hardware or software systems, or components, ensuring integration with existing network systems. This position is the first point of contact for troubleshooting all technical problems that arise within the Building Permits Department on PCs, laptops, tablets, cell phones, hot spots, printers, and related computer peripheral equipment. Employee installs, configures, and supports networking equipment such as routers and switches. Reviews specifications, and recommends purchase of computer equipment, and systems. Makes recommendations for upgrades. Interfaces with the parish Information System staff and contractors on behalf of the Building Permit Department. Responsible for issuing computers, netbooks, tablets, iPhones, and maintains an accurate log on all computer related equipment. Installs, configures, and maintains PC servers; Installs server operating systems, operating system patches, and operating system upgrades. Creates and runs reports on data from Building Permit Regulatory, and Violation Systems as well as special projects when assigned.

Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.

Meets ONE of the following four options:

  1. I. Current employment with Jefferson Parish and permanent civil service status in the class of Computer Network Specialist; plus, at least three (3) years of experience working in a technology role in the J.P. Department of Electronic Information Systems.
  2. II. At least seven (7) years of work experience implementing and supporting computer systems in a mid-sized business or larger environment, involving Windows Server, Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Exchange, SQL, LANs/WANs, and network segments; qualifying experience must include significant recent experience (i.e., at least nine months gained within the last two years). Plus, must have at least three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity over technical support staff.
  3. III. Possession of an accredited Associate's degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or a closely related field and at least five (5) years of work experience implementing and supporting computer systems in a mid-sized business or larger environment, involving Windows Server, Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Exchange, SQL, LANs/WANs, and network segments; qualifying experience must include significant recent experience (i.e., at least nine months gained within the last two years). Plus, must have at least three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity over technical support staff.
  4. IV. Possession of an accredited Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or a closely related field and at least three (3) years of work experience implementing and supporting computer systems in a mid-sized business or larger environment, involving Windows Server, Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Exchange, SQL, LANs/WANs, and network segments; qualifying experience must include significant recent experience (i.e., at least nine months gained within the last two years). Plus, must have at least three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity over technical support staff.
Preferred

Active certifications from Microsoft, VMware, Fortinet, and CISCO are preferred.

Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate. (ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)
