Job summary

CACI International Inc is seeking a mid-level Computer Engineer to join ONR DoD support efforts. You will design and test embedded firmware, develop autonomy software with ROS, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver cutting-edge capabilities.

You will perform hands-on debugging, create technical data packages, and coordinate with external partners while travelling to CONUS sites for live tests. A SECRET clearance eligibility is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering or a related field.
  • 0-3 years of engineering experience.
  • Eligibility for a SECRET clearance.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and knowledge of simulation and analysis tools.
  • Excellent technical writing and data presentation skills.
  • Analytical thinker, able to work independently and in a team.
  • Willingness to learn and manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test firmware and embedded C software for microcontrollers and single-board computers; implement communication interfaces with sensors and hardware.
  • Develop software for autonomy and control algorithms on robotics platforms using ROS to integrate with hardware.
  • Perform hands-on benchtop debugging, code flashing, and hardware/software integration.
  • Prepare and deliver a Level 2 Technical Data Package for prototype or low-rate production
  • Create briefs, Installation Plans, and Test Plans for prototypes and environmental testing.
  • Validate hardware integration against industry and site codes; coordinate with external teams for production.
  • Travel to CONUS locations to support live tests and evaluations; provide on-site technical support.
  • Coordinate prototype and low-rate installation with external production partners; communicate status updates to stakeholders.
  • Procure materials for government needs to support prototypes and production.

CACI is currently looking for a mid-level Computer Engineer to join our team supporting Office of Naval Research (ONR) for the Department of Defense

Responsibilities

For this Computer Engineer position, you will be responsible for conducting research, developing new engineering solutions, and collaborating a multidisciplinary team to bring cutting‑edge technologies to life

You Will
  • Design, develop, and test firmware and embedded C software for microcontrollers (e.g., RP2040 architectures) and single-board computers. Implement communication protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART, Ethernet) to reliably interface with sensors and custom hardware
  • Develop and integrate software for autonomy, control algorithms, and edge computing on robotics platforms. Utilize frameworks like ROS (Robot Operating System) to integrate custom code with COTS/GOTS hardware to support fast‑paced project requirements
  • Perform hands‑on benchtop debugging, code flashing, and software‑to‑hardware integration alongside electrical and mechanical engineers to build functional prototypes
  • Ensure that a level 2 Technical Data Package (TDP) is prepared and delivered for assigned projects that reach the prototype or low‑rate production stages of development The contractor shall assist in the development of the TDP
  • Create and maintain basic briefs for various prototype devices and prepare and deliver Installation Plans and drawings, as well as Test Plans for functional, performance, and environmental testing of prototypes
  • Validate hardware integration performance using approved industry and site‑specific construction codes and policies
  • Travel to various Continental United States (CONUS) locations to support live test events and operational evaluations Provide essential on‑site technical support, real‑time troubleshooting, and data collection for prototype systems under test
  • Interact with and coordinate prototype and low‑rate installation and/or production with external parties tasked with producing units for assigned projects
  • Provide routine status updates and communicate urgent matters involving production issues to management and other stakeholders in a timely manner via phone, email, or other normal communication methods
  • Purchase material for the government as needed to support prototype and low‑rate production for assigned projects
Qualifications
  • A-BET accredited Bachelor’s Degree in computer engineering field or similar engineering discipline
  • 0-3 years of experience in a position requiring engineering expertise
  • Eligibility for a SECRET clearance
  • Proficiency in CAD software and knowledge of simulation and analysis tools
  • Understanding of simulation and analysis tools
  • Excellent technical writing and data presentation skills
  • Track record of complex problem‑solving aptitude
  • Ability to think analytically and independently
  • Team orientated
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in written form
  • Willingness to learn new skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
Desired
  • 5-10 years Computer Engineering experience or other related technical field
  • Existing experience producing civil systems and/or prototypes for projects on IAC MAC task orders
  • Experience in a civil engineering position working with IAC MAC customers
  • Experience in DoD customer relations and civil engineering
  • Active minimum Secret clearance
