Onondaga Community College, located in Syracuse, NY, is a college of the State University of New York (SUNY) system and one of 30 locally sponsored community colleges throughout New York State. Onondaga County is our sponsor. We offer two-year degree programs that serve as transfer opportunities to baccalaureate degree programs at four-year campuses or for direct entry to the workforce. Job Description:

The Computing Disciplines of the Applied Engineering Technology Department at Onondaga Community College are accepting applications for adjunct instructors to teach computing courses (Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, & Cybersecurity). The highest need areas will require the adjunct to teach programming courses, data structures, and how those are utilized in modern software engineering. Additional areas of need include teaching courses for our Cybersecurity program, Information Systems/Information Technology, and web technologies. While the highest need is for daytime instruction, applicants for teaching at night will also be considered.

Types of courses the applicant will be considered for:

  • CYB-101 Computer Security
  • CYB-250 Server Administration
  • CIS-100 Information and Computer Literacy
  • CIS-270 Routing & Switching
  • CIS-286 Systems Analysis and Design
  • CSC-111 Fundamentals of Computing I
  • CSC-112 Fundamentals of Computing II
  • CSC-211 Computer System Organization
  • CSC-220 Foundations of Computer Science
  • CSC-221 Software Engineering
  • CSC-263 C++ Programming
  • CSC-280 C#.Net Programming
Major Responsibilities:
  • Teach between 3 to 11 contact hours per term in college-level computing or cybersecurity courses.
  • Prepare and present lectures.
  • Meet with students as needed to answer questions.
  • Respond to student queries (e.g., email or voice mail) in a timely manner.
  • Write, administer, and grade all student assignments and exams.
  • Compute grades and submit them on time.
  • Maintain student records.

Participate in a 2-hour orientation and additional training workshops throughout the term.

Requirements:
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited college, university, or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems/Technology, or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching at the community college level and working with diverse student populations, especially underrepresented students.
  • Bilingual in Spanish & English; proficiency in English and another language is considered an asset.
  • Professional employment experience in the field is also desirable.
Additional Information:
  • Adjunct rate of pay for the 25/26 academic year is $1,483 per credit hour. Classes will be assigned based on enrollment needs.
  • Adjuncts are eligible to participate in the NYS Teacher's Retirement System.
