Job summary

MITRE is seeking a Computer and Data Science Intern to join our N558 team in Omaha, supporting complex technical challenges for national security and defense missions. You will work with a team of experts on data analysis, software development, and modeling, applying CS/AI/Math concepts to real-world problems.

Ideal candidates are full-time students in CS, AI, Data Science, OR, or related fields, capable communicators, and eligible for DoD clearance.

Qualifications

• Sustained excellence in academic performance.
• Must be a student enrolled full-time in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Data Science, Operations Research, Cybersecurity, Systems Engineering, or a related degree and continue to be enrolled full-time the semester following the internship.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret or Top-Secret security Clearance.

Department Summary:

The N558 department provides multidisciplinary systems and mission engineering for U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM), U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM), and their subordinate commands.

Basic Qualifications:

• Sustained excellence in academic performance.
• Must be a student enrolled full-time in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree‑seeking program in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Data Science, Operations Research, Cybersecurity, Systems Engineering, or a related degree and continue to be enrolled full-time the semester following the internship.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret or Top-Secret security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated interest in serving the public.
• Experience applying computer science or data science learning to an internship, research, or lab setting.
• Knowledge of STRATCOM, NORAD/NORTHCOM, and SOUTHCOM missions.
• Hands‑on software development skills in a modern programming language (e.g. Python)
• Working knowledge of data science workflow from data acquisition to reporting findings.
• Experience in any of the following areas: AI/ML, software development and debugging, cybersecurity, communication networks, operations research, data science/analysis.
• Currently possess or is eligible for a TS/SCI clearance.

Clearance : In addition to passing MITRE’s employment background check, you may be submitted for a U.S. Government Security clearance . This is determined by the Department of Defense’s adjudicative guidelines for receiving a clearance, to include U.S. citizenship . Other jobs may require vetting for various levels of agency public trust, fitness, suitability, controlled access, and special programs access determination consistent with the work program to which you are assigned.
