Job summary

McLaren Health Care is seeking a CT Technologist to perform CT scans with supervision and ensure patient comfort. The role involves image acquisition, equipment operation, and adherence to safety standards within a large Michigan network.

The candidate will prep patients, position them correctly, and collaborate with physicians to capture accurate images. Required ARRT CT certification or cross-training within 12 months, AMA-approved radiology education, and BLS certification are essential.

  • Current BLS certification.
  • Cross-training from another ARRT modality to CT within 12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Produce CT radiographs per established policies and procedures.
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate tomography scanner and related imaging equipment.
  • Explain procedures, position patients, and address concerns to ensure comfort and accuracy.
  • Maintain documentation, logs, and records in paper and electronic formats.
  • Lead duties include quality control and training new staff.

Job description

The McLaren system includes 12 hospitals across the state, ambulatory surgery centers, imaging centers, a 730-member employed primary and specialty care physician network, commercial and Medicaid HMOs covering more than 242,000 Michigan lives, home health, infusion and hospice providers, pharmacy services, a clinical laboratory network, and a wholly owned medical malpractice insurance company. McLaren operates Michigan’s largest network of cancer centers and providers, anchored by the Karmanos Cancer Institute, a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center. McLaren has 20,000 full-, part-time and contracted employees and more than 93,000 network providers throughout Michigan.

Position Summary: Produces computerized tomographic scanner radiographs of specific areas consistent with established policies and procedures at a technical level typically requiring general supervision.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Obtains patient history, explains standard procedures, and addresses patient concerns to foster a sense of comfort and confidence to patients and ensure the needs of individual patients are met.
  • Operates and maintains all assigned imaging department equipment including but not limited to tomography scanner equipment.
  • In addition to conducting scans, prepares patients for these diagnostic procedures by explaining the process and positioning patients to correctly capture the images requested by a physician.
  • Properly identifies, prepares and/or administers medications that are within the technologist’s scope of practice as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Completes quality assurance processes and practices radiation safety in order to reduce exposure to patients, staff and self.
  • Maintains all required documentation, logs, charts, forms and records in paper and electronic formats.
  • Maintains an adequate supply of all consumables to perform quality testing.
  • Performs all routine daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic maintenance and function checks following established protocol for all imaging equipment.
  • May assist other areas of radiology as assigned.
  • 10. Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Lead Duties and Responsibilities (If classified in a Lead Role):

  • Assists in quality control and performance improvement activities.
  • Contributes to performance feedback, hiring decisions.
  • Ensures standards are met (quality, timeliness, customer service, etc.).
  • Evaluates and tests new procedures/processes.
  • Orients and/or trains new staff.
  • Problem solving capabilities.
  • Subject matter expert/technical leadership.
  • Work flow/distribution of work.
  • Assists in assuring compliance with all regulatory and other agency requirements, laws, and statutes pertaining to the operation of the department.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Certified as a Computed Tomography Technologist
  • If not CT Certified, cross training from another ARRT modality to become CT Certified within 12 months.
  • Graduation from an AMA-approved school of radiology technology
  • Certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT).
  • Current BLS certification

Required for Lead:

  • Certified as CT Technologist

Preferred:

  • Certified within fifteen (15 ) months of hire or transfer
