Job description

Overview

Job Description: Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Function as a CT Technologist within a general medical and surgical hospital framework, executing complex and highly specialized CT procedures independently. Collaborate in the development, maintenance, and analysis of quality improvement (QI) and quality control (QC) programs. Provide consultative input to various medical treatment facility (MTF) departments executing radiologic procedures, though final accountability for results lies with other entities.
  • Independently perform imaging following consultations with radiologists to ascertain examination prerequisites. Manage scheduling, receipt, and review of examination requests from healthcare providers. Assess patients to determine applicable conditions and select appropriate procedures and equipment tailored to individual cases. Effectively communicate procedural details to patients and their families. Initiate intravenous fluids and monitor devices. Distinguish between artifacts and normal pathology and recognize anatomical significance. Adhere to standards set by accrediting bodies like the American College of Radiology, JRCERT, and JCAHO.
  • Execute comprehensive diagnostic CT examinations across various modalities, including neuro, chest, abdomen, pediatric, extremity, body, and musculoskeletal scans. Select optimal technical parameters and scan protocols via computerized interfaces. Administer oral and intravenous contrast media while adhering to Universal Precautions and patient assessment protocols. Print CT images as necessary, process films in automated film processors, and archive images with MOD and AGFA Archive systems. Conduct patient interviews to assess contrast material sensitivity and assist radiologists in determining appropriate contrast volumes for administration. Ensure compliance with radiation safety standards to protect both staff and patients. Evaluate CT images alongside radiologists to decide on additional imaging or contrast requirements. Assist in CT-guided biopsy and aspiration procedures to secure high-quality images for accurate diagnoses. Confirm the completeness and signatures of patient records prior to performing examinations or procedures.
  • Monitor equipment status indicators to prevent malfunctions and coordinate maintenance with GE and MEDRAD. Conduct daily quality control assessments of the CT scanner and oversee emergency equipment and medication checks to ensure all items are available and up to date.
  • Contribute to identifying areas requiring improvement, propose corrective measures, and collaborate with relevant personnel to rectify deficiencies. Support government supervisors in investigating, evaluating, and documenting significant QI/QA issues affecting patient care quality.
  • Assist in formulating quality control protocols for newly introduced radiologic examinations in the department while updating existing procedures as needed. Work on maintaining documentation in line with the MQM quality assurance framework. Review contemporary literature to enhance QI/QA/QC practices. Participate in evaluating new protocols for local application and consult with the radiology manager and Chief of Radiology on developing and implementing the joint MDIS system.
  • Engage in educational activities for medical professionals and paraprofessionals, providing instruction in both the theoretical and practical aspects of quality assurance and control as they pertain to PAC systems in the Radiology Department. Conduct interdisciplinary visits to relevant MTF departments focusing on diagnostic radiology.
