Job description

TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN COMPUTATIONAL ORGANIC CHEMISTRY
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL SCIENCES
PITZER AND SCRIPPS COLLEGES

The Department of Natural Sciences seeks to hire a tenure-track teacher-scholar to teach in our organic chemistry program and to lead a student-centered undergraduate research program in computational chemistry. There are also opportunities to design and teach both upper-level electives and courses for non-science majors.

We seek a chemist with a clear capacity for and dedication to excellence in teaching, who will develop a vibrant research program that fully engages undergraduate students, and who possesses a demonstrated commitment to our colleges’ (Pitzer and Scripps) goal of improving higher education student learning. The appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level and will begin on July 1, 2027. A Ph.D. in a chemistry-related field and a record of scholarly publication are required. Postdoctoral experience is strongly preferred.

The Department, which houses the biology, chemistry, physics, neuroscience, and environmental science faculty for Pitzer and Scripps Colleges (two of the five undergraduate Claremont Colleges), offers innovative and interdisciplinary programs in the natural sciences. The Department supports faculty success through mentorship, professional development opportunities, and regular sabbaticals. Faculty of the Department of Natural Sciences are part of the rich intellectual environment of the Claremont Colleges consortium and benefit from close proximity to major research universities in the Southern California region, enabling collaboration both within and outside the department. Additional information about the department may be found at https://natsci.claremont.edu/.

The salary for this position will range from $105,000 - $111,000 and will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training. Current faculty benefits include a generous tuition-remission program for children of faculty, which can potentially cover up to half their tuition at most colleges in the U.S., and a 12% employer contribution to a 403b retirement plan.

The Department of Natural Sciences of Pitzer and Scripps Colleges is an equal-opportunity employer. In keeping with its ongoing commitment to build and support a diverse and equitable academic community, the Department of Natural Sciences actively encourages applications from women and members of historically underrepresented groups.

A Ph.D. in a chemistry-related field and a record of scholarly publication are required. Postdoctoral experience is strongly preferred.
