Job description

We are currently supporting a client operating within the advanced materials and manufacturing sector in the search for a Computational Engineering Manager. Based in Texas, this is a leadership opportunity within a rapidly growing engineering organization focused on developing next-generation manufacturing technologies.

You'll be responsible for leading a small team of computational engineers, setting the technical direction of the function and acting as the bridge between computational and experimental engineering. The team is moving beyond pure modelling and into a phase where computational insights will increasingly drive new materials development, manufacturing processes and long-term technology strategy. Working closely with senior engineering leaders across process development, product engineering and materials development, you'll help shape how computational methods are applied across multiple R&D programs while supporting the development and scale-up of advanced manufacturing technologies.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a team of computational engineers, providing both technical and people leadership.
  • Define the computational modelling strategy across a broad portfolio of materials and manufacturing development projects.
  • Develop and apply Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) methodologies to model complex metallurgical systems and manufacturing processes.
  • Apply computational methods including thermodynamic modelling, materials informatics, machine learning, atomistic simulations, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), molten metal modelling and image-based microstructure analysis.
  • Work closely with experimental engineers to integrate modelling with laboratory and pilot-scale development activities.
  • Develop process-structure-property models to optimize manufacturing performance and accelerate technology development.
  • Manage multiple technical projects, ensuring priorities align with wider business objectives.
  • Collaborate with universities, national laboratories and strategic partners on applied research initiatives.
  • Publish technical work where appropriate and represent the business within the wider engineering community.
What we're looking for

The successful candidate will typically hold a Master's or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Physics, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline and will have a strong background in computational materials engineering within an industrial environment. We're particularly interested in individuals who combine deep technical modelling expertise with the ability to lead people and manage complex technical programs. This is a leadership position, so previous management experience is strongly preferred. However, we'd also be interested in speaking with senior technical leaders who have led major development projects or mentored engineering teams and are ready to step into a formal management role.

Experience in any of the following would be highly relevant:

  • Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME)
  • Thermodynamic modelling
  • CALPHAD
  • Materials informatics
  • Machine learning
  • Image-based microstructure analysis
  • Metallurgical manufacturing processes
  • Python, MATLAB or similar scientific programming languages

Candidates from industry are preferred, particularly those who have led multidisciplinary technical teams. We will also consider candidates from academia or national laboratories who have significant experience collaborating with industry and leading applied research programs.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-growth engineering organization working on complex materials and manufacturing challenges. The successful candidate will play a key role in defining the long-term computational strategy of the business while leading a team responsible for developing innovative technologies from concept through to industrial application.
