Qualifications

  • Master's or Bachelor's in CS or a related field of biological science.

Responsibilities

  • Manage research lab computer hardware and software programming and maintenance.
  • Perform complex data analysis related to specialized research methodologies and results.
  • Develop and/or modify software to support new and ongoing research projects.
  • Resolve hardware, software, and network issues in support of the lab.

JOB SUMMARY

Perform professional work in support of scientific research using technical knowledge of software, software development, networking, and/or hardware in a complex computing environment. Subject matter expert in multiple areas of computing technology, and specific knowledge of molecular biology and genetics. Works collaboratively with Principal Investigator ("PI") to determine the most suitable computational methods and tools to analyze large-scale biological data sets. Prepare reports for presentation or publication. Responsible for assisting PI in meeting the system needs for multiple research projects and/or labs.

The Choi Laboratory within the Center for Cellular Therapies and Cancer Immunology at UT Southwestern conducts interdisciplinary research at the intersection of cancer immunology, cellular therapy, immune engineering, and AI-enabled biomedical discovery. The Computational Biologist I will work collaboratively with the Principal Investigator, Dr. Jaehyuk Choi, and a multidisciplinary team of computational and experimental researchers to analyze and manage large-scale genomic, single-cell, spatial, clinical, and other multi-omic datasets and to implement novel computational methods to analyze and engineer new proteins. The position will help identify, implement, and refine appropriate bioinformatics, statistical, and computational methods to produce reproducible analyses and translate complex data into meaningful biological insights.

Responsibilities include developing and maintaining computational workflows, software tools, databases, and research computing resources; supporting data visualization and interpretation; and contributing to machine-learning and other advanced analytical approaches as appropriate to project needs. The Computational Biologist I will document code, methods, and results; prepare analyses and reports for presentations, publications, and collaborative discussions; and provide technical support and training related to laboratory computational systems. This position will support multiple collaborative research projects aimed at advancing the understanding of immune biology and accelerating the development of innovative cellular and immune-based therapies.
