SURVICE Engineering is seeking a Computational Aerodynamics Researcher at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. The role requires an active clearance or eligibility and offers a salary ranging from $105,000 to $125,000, with up to 5% travel.

Join a defense-focused team applying CFD methods to novel munition concepts and aeroballistic launch simulations. Minimum qualifications include a BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and 5+ years of relevant experience, plus experience with CFD++ or ANSYS

Qualifications

• Experience executing basic and applied research on aerothermodynamics of high-speed projectiles.
• Experience with CFD models such as CFD++ or ANSYS Fluent.
• Experience documenting numerical and analytical procedures, methods, results and conclusions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct semi-empirical and CFD simulations to characterize aerodynamic performance and stability of novel munition concepts.
• Study complex flow phenomena across Mach numbers and flow conditions relevant to Army munition programs.
• Develop and run coupled simulations with heat transfer, flight dynamics and control.
• Apply aerodynamics theories to predict aeroballistic launch and flight behaviors.
• Develop meshing techniques for accurate CFD results and perform error analysis.
• Identify capability gaps and propose solutions to enhance experiments and simulations.
• Prepare and present technical results in written and presentation formats.

Position Summary

SURVICE Engineering is currently seeking a Computational Aerodynamics Researcher to support our Aberdeen Research Operation. You will accelerate your career and become an integral team member within the defense community.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct semi-empirical and computational fluid dynamics simulations to characterize the aerodynamic performance and stability of novel munition concepts.
• Conduct detailed studies of the complex flow phenomena of Army-relevant munitions across different Mach numbers and flow conditions.
• These flow phenomena include research areas such as vortex interactions, shock-boundary layer interactions, shock-shock interactions, boundary-layer transition, and turbulence.
• Develop and run coupled performance simulations with partners in related fields such as heat transfer, flight dynamics, and control.
• Apply theories, principles and methods related to aerodynamics, flight mechanics, flight control, heat transfer and acoustics to predict and quantify physical behaviors associated with aeroballistic launch and flight.
• Develop and apply meshing techniques to attain highly accurate CFD results in an efficient way.
  Apply statistical methods and error analysis to assess and quantify data quality.
• Develop new novel weapon system concepts for improved aeroballistic launch and flight.
• Identify gaps in experimental and simulation capabilities and identify potential solutions to improve capabilities.
• Prepare and present presentations and written documents summarizing efforts

Minimum Qualifications of Computational Aerodynamics Researcher

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and 5+ years of relevant experience. Exceptional candidates with less experience will be considered. Candidates are not required to possess all qualifications; if you possess some of the desired qualifications, please apply.
