General description

The Property Tax Assistance Division (PTAD) provides technical assistance to local governments and taxpayers on property tax issues. PTAD is split into two areas, Appraisal Operations and PTAD Programs, allowing the Division to meet customer needs and implement statutory requirements in many innovative ways. This position is under the Appraisal Operations Area, Complex Property Appraisal Section.

This is an opportunity to work remotely from home and perform the School District Property Value Study within an assigned region. Candidates for this position should reside or be willing to reside in the following counties:

Position

Commercial Appraiser – Central Texas

Atascosa, Bastrop, Bell, Bexar, Burleson, Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe, Hays, Karnes, Lee, Milam, Travis, Williamson, Wilson.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from High School or GED.
  • Six (6) years of appraisal work such as residential, commercial or personal property.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, management or real estate.
  • Eight (8) years of commercial appraisal experience utilizing the income, cost and market approach.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Appraiser II requires an appraiser to hold a Level IV RPA designation or another professional appraiser designation.
  • A valid Texas (or state of residency) driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record are a condition of employment.
  • Applicants offered an interview must present the following documents at or before the interview: a state issued driving record for the last 36 months; valid Texas driver’s license (or state of residency driver’s license); and current proof of automobile insurance.

In this role you will

  • Apply local cost modifier, develop land schedules based on sales, consult industry publications, and gather income and expense information on commercial properties. Assign sale, costs, and income information related to each property appraisal. Inspect properties and contact real buyers and sellers for information on the property’s real estate market value.
  • Prepare economic or statistical reports. Examine and verify real estate records to determine property ownership, incomes, and expenses in connection with real estate ownership.
  • Participate in formal and informal appeals. Provide testimony in legal proceedings.
