Job description

Our client is an innovative aerospace company developing next-generation propulsion technology for high-performance flight. Working at the forefront of advanced gas turbine development, they're building clean-sheet propulsion systems in a fast-moving startup environment where engineers have significant technical ownership and influence.

We're seeking a Propulsion Engineer with expertise in compressor aerodynamics and turbomachinery design to play a key role in developing the front end of an advanced gas turbine engine.

You’ll own the design and optimization of major compression system components while working closely with mechanical design, structures, systems, and test engineering teams throughout the complete development lifecycle-from early concept through testing and certification.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of compressor system components, including fan, low-pressure compressor, or high-pressure compressor modules.
  • Design airfoils and optimize flowpaths using CFD and aerodynamic analysis tools.
  • Develop 1D meanline models, compressor maps, and aerodynamic performance predictions.
  • Support component development through rig testing, engine testing, hardware assessments, and performance validation.
  • Analyse test data and recommend engineering improvements based on results.
  • Develop and improve engineering toolchains, automation, and multidisciplinary design workflows.
  • Collaborate closely with structures, mechanical design, systems engineering, and test teams throughout engine development.
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience designing axial turbomachinery or gas turbine compressor systems.
  • Strong understanding of compressor aerodynamics, blade design, and CFD analysis.
  • Experience developing meanline models and aerodynamic performance predictions.
  • Familiarity with engine cycle modelling tools such as NPSS, PyCycle, or similar.
  • Ability to work with CAD models to support engine integration activities.
  • Programming or automation experience using Python or similar languages.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative engineering mindset.
Nice to Have
  • Ownership of compressor modules or turbomachinery components throughout development.
  • Experience with high-speed compressor airfoil optimisation and aero-mechanics.
  • Knowledge of unsteady CFD, flutter analysis, or compressor operability.
  • Experience with secondary air systems within gas turbine engines.
  • Exposure to turbomachinery software such as AxSTREAM, ADS, or similar.
  • Background developing engineering tools, automation, or multidisciplinary design processes.
  • Engine testing, rig testing, and data reduction experience.
  • Experience within aerospace propulsion, industrial gas turbines, power generation, or other high-performance rotating machinery.
Why Join?
  • Help develop cutting-edge propulsion technology within a rapidly growing engineering organisation.
  • Work on clean-sheet engine development with significant technical ownership and visibility.
  • Collaborate with experienced multidisciplinary engineering teams solving challenging real-world problems.
  • Join a high-energy startup culture that values innovation, rapid execution, and technical excellence over bureaucracy.
  • Competitive compensation, equity, comprehensive benefits, relocation assistance, and flexible PTO.
