Department Summary:

The Department of Ophthalmology at the Virginia CommonwealthUniversity Medical Center supports a large health system providingboth primary and tertiary care. The advertised position isresponsible for direct patient care and supervision at our downtownVCU Health campus and satellite locations. Excellent diagnostic andsurgical skills are required. The department supports a 16 residentophthalmology training program with a full 5-year ACGMEAccreditation.

The successful candidate must maintain high clinical and ethicalstandards that will be carried into decision-making processes,adhere to compliance measures, establish and promote an atmosphereof unity through collaborative practice and effective communicationbetween all staff disciplines, and foster a high level of patientand staff satisfaction. Residents and certified ophthalmic medicaltechnicians assist with patient care and ancillary testing. APhysician Practice Group compensation plan provides an opportunityfor a competitive salary. Appointment at the level of Assistant,Associate, or full Professor is available commensurate withexperience.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidate must be Board Certified/Board Eligible/On Pathwaytoward Board Certification in Ophthalmology and have completedresidency training in ophthalmology.
  • Must possess/maintain a current, full, and unrestricted licenseto practice medicine in the state of Virginia.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or acommitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
