Duties & Responsibilities:

The Department of Ophthalmology at the Virginia CommonwealthUniversity Medical Center supports a large health system providingboth primary and tertiary care. The advertised position isresponsible for direct patient care and supervision at our downtownVCU Health campus and satellite locations. Excellent diagnostic andsurgical skills are required. The department supports a 16 residentophthalmology training program with a full 5-year ACGMEAccreditation.

The candidate must maintain high clinical and ethical standardsthat will be carried into decision-making processes, adhere tocompliance measures, establish and promote an atmosphere of unitythrough collaborative practice and effective communication betweenall staff disciplines, and foster a high level of patient and staffsatisfaction. Residents and certified ophthalmic medicaltechnicians assist with patient care and ancillary testing. APhysician Practice Group compensation plan provides an opportunityfor a competitive salary. Academic appointment at the level ofAssistant, Associate, or full Professor is available commensuratewith experience.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidate must be Board Certified/Board Eligible/On Pathwaytoward Board Certification in Ophthalmology and have completedresidency training in ophthalmology.
  • Must possess/maintain a current, full, and unrestricted licenseto practice medicine in the state of Virginia.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or acommitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
