Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Compounder for the 2nd shift in East Brunswick, NJ to support spray and batch preparation. You will retrieve ingredients, measure precisely, mix formulas, melt solids when required, and document every step in a fast-paced GMP environment.

You will work with powders and liquids, monitor batch viscosity, sample products for lab testing, and ensure food-safety standards and sanitation are followed.

Qualifications

  • 6 months to 1 year compounding experience in production/manufacturing.
  • Hands-on mixing, compounding, batch making and batching processes.
  • GMP environment experience with safety and sanitation protocols.

Job Title: Compounder – 2nd Shift (Spray)

This 2nd shift Compounder position focuses on spray compounding operations, where you will accurately retrieve, measure, mix, and process raw materials into finished batches using liquid, powder, homogenizing, and spray dry methods. You will help maintain high quality and food safety standards by following detailed batch instructions, documenting each step, and working closely with cross-functional team members in a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities
  • Retrieve raw ingredients from storage and verify that materials match batch requirements before use.
  • Accurately measure ingredients using scales and other measuring devices to ensure precise batch formulations.
  • Mix various ingredients according to standard batch instructions, including liquids, powders, and other substances.
  • Identify solid ingredients that require melting and safely melt them using hot plates or other approved equipment.
  • Identify ingredients that require dilution, prepare appropriate dilutions, and record all raw material usage accurately.
  • Process batches using liquid, powder, homogenizing, and spray dry methods of compounding according to established procedures.
  • Follow standard batch instructions to accurately weigh dyes and other substances into the equipment in the correct sequence and quantities.
  • Check consistency of batches during production and measure viscosity of mixtures to ensure they meet specified parameters.
  • Collect batch samples and deliver them to the laboratory for testing, following all sampling and labeling procedures.
  • Maintain quality standards by verifying the weight and contents of raw materials before and during production.
  • Conduct in-process batch inspections, document all process events, and complete required production records accurately and on time.
  • Follow all procedures and policies related to quality, safety, sanitation, and production to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Adhere to food safety guidelines and accurately document all work completed to support traceability and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, supporting Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards and safe production operations.
  • Wear required uniform and personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times and follow all safety protocols in the production area.
  • Collaborate with team members and cross-functional partners to support efficient production flow and resolve issues as they arise.
Essential Skills
  • 6 months to 1 year of compounding experience with powders and raw materials in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with mixing, compounding, batch making, and batching processes.
  • Experience working in a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) environment and consistently following safety and sanitation protocols.
  • Experience handling raw materials and performing blending operations in a production setting.
  • Ability to accurately measure ingredients using scales and other measurement tools.
  • Ability to follow detailed standard batch instructions and documented procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail for verifying raw material weights, contents, and batch consistency.

  • Commitment to following food safety guidelines and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Willingness to wear a uniform and proper personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work 2nd shift hours as scheduled.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous experience in chemical manufacturing, especially in food, flavor, or fragrance production environments.
  • Familiarity with homogenizing and spray dry compounding methods.
  • Comfort working with hot plates and other heating equipment to melt solid ingredients safely.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, cross-functional production environment.
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with laboratory and production teams.
  • Demonstrated reliability and consistency in following established policies and procedures.
Work Environment

This role operates in a team-based, cross-functional production environment focused on food, flavor, and fragrance manufacturing. You will work primarily on 2nd shift, with schedules that may include Monday through Friday or Tuesday through Saturday from approximately 12:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. The facility follows Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards and strict food safety and sanitation protocols. You will work with raw materials in powder and liquid form, using scales, mixing equipment, homogenizers, spray dry systems, and hot plates. The environment is fast-paced and production-oriented, requiring consistent documentation and adherence to procedures. A uniform and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) are required at all times while on the production floor.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $57200.00 - $57200.00/yr.
