Job summary

Hydrogen Group is seeking an experienced Compound Management Specialist to register and track newly synthesized and sourced compounds. You will maintain comprehensive metadata, ensure inventory accuracy, and manage international shipments while collaborating with CROs and internal teams.

Major duties include SOP creation, data integrity, and process improvements to support scalable study execution in a fast-paced research setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related scientific discipline required.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in compound management, medicinal chemistry support, pharmaceutical research operations, or related environment.
  • Hands-on experience with compound registration platforms, electronic laboratory systems, and inventory management databases.
  • Experience working with external CROs, vendors, or compound logistics networks.

Responsibilities

  • Register newly synthesized and externally sourced compounds in electronic compound databases according to established registration and nomenclature standards.
  • Maintain complete and accurate information related to chemical structure, molecular weight, purity, salt form, inventory location, and sample history.
  • Conduct routine inventory audits and reconcile physical inventory against electronic records.
  • Coordinate domestic and international shipments and transfers while following applicable regulations and company policies.
  • Create, implement, and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and training documentation.
  • Investigate deviations involving inventory, labeling, shipping, and database records.
  • Drive actions designed to prevent recurring operational issues.
  • Lead or contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on workflow efficiency, scalability, turnaround time, and data integrity.

CAMBRIDGE, MA | STANDARD EST HOURS

12-Month Contract

$44-49/Hour Maximum Pay Rate

Job Responsibilities
  • Managing the registration and documentation of newly synthesized and externally sourced chemical compounds.
  • Maintaining accurate compound metadata, inventory records, sample history, and electronic documentation.
  • Ensuring compound availability, traceability, sample integrity, and accurate inventory control.
  • Coordinating domestic and international compound shipments and transfers to internal and external collaborators.
  • Partnering with Medicinal Chemistry, Biology, DMPK, Analytical Sciences, Informatics, and external CROs to support research activities.
  • Developing and maintaining SOPs, work instructions, and training materials for compound management workflows.
  • Investigating inventory, labeling, shipping, and database discrepancies and supporting corrective actions.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, scalability, turnaround time, data integrity, and user experience.
  • Serving as an operational point of contact for CROs and vendors supporting compound synthesis, purification, analytical testing, storage, and logistics.
Essential Duties and Job Functions
  • Register newly synthesized and externally sourced compounds in electronic compound databases according to established registration and nomenclature standards.
  • Maintain complete and accurate information related to chemical structure, molecular weight, purity, salt form, inventory location, and sample history.
  • Conduct routine inventory audits and reconcile physical inventory against electronic records.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies between physical samples and database records.
  • Maintain accurate compound inventory and ensure research materials are available to project teams when needed.
  • Coordinate domestic and international shipments and transfers while following applicable regulations and company policies.
  • Create, implement, and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and training documentation.
  • Investigate deviations involving inventory, labeling, shipping, and database records.
  • Drive actions designed to prevent recurring operational issues.
  • Lead or contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on workflow efficiency, scalability, turnaround time, and data integrity.
  • Manage day-to-day operational relationships with CROs and vendors.
  • Partner with project teams, procurement, and quality functions to resolve vendor and collaboration issues.
  • Support vendor onboarding, performance discussions, process changes, and business-continuity planning.
  • Partner with medicinal chemists to ensure timely registration and processing of newly synthesized compounds.
  • Collaborate with Biology, DMPK, Informatics, Analytical Chemistry, and project teams to support study execution and compound logistics.
  • Train laboratory personnel and external partners on compound submission requirements, systems, and best practices.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert for compound management systems, processes, and data standards.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong knowledge of chemical structures, nomenclature, compound handling, storage, and laboratory safety practices.
  • Experience with compound registration platforms, electronic laboratory systems, and inventory management databases.
  • Experience with compound registration software such as BIOVIA, Dotmatics, CDD Vault, ChemAxon, or equivalent platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and database or inventory-tracking applications.
  • Some experience with Python scripting preferred.
  • Familiarity with automated compound storage and retrieval systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of high-throughput screening support preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational, prioritization, and record-keeping skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality and sample integrity.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders in a fast-paced research environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, external CROs, and vendors.
  • Strong practical problem-solving skills and a continuous-improvement mindset.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline required.
  • Master's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in compound management, medicinal chemistry support, pharmaceutical research operations, or a related scientific environment.
  • Hands-on experience with compound registration platforms, electronic laboratory systems, and inventory management databases.
  • Experience working with external CROs, vendors, or compound logistics networks.
