Job summary

Safran Aerospace Composites in Rochester, NH, is seeking a bonding process technician for second shift (Mon-Thu, 3:15pm-1:15am) to perform bonding, layup, vacuum bagging, autoclave setup, and surface preparation in fan blade or fan case value streams.

You will follow work instructions, inspect parts, record measurements, and operate tools. The role emphasizes safety, quality, and continuous improvement with a four-day work week and a 10% shift differential.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in manufacturing preferred.
  • Experience with composite materials preferred.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude; familiarity with metric system preferred.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and precision in finishing work.

  • Ability to work with epoxy and adhesive materials.
  • Team-oriented with good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills including data entry and keyboarding.
  • Knowledge of AS9100C or ISO9001 standards preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform bonding tasks including kitting, layup, vacuum bagging, autoclave setup, surface prep and debond with appropriate supervision.
  • Follow detailed work instructions and use various computer systems.
  • Inspect workmanship per procedures and records parameters with precision.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment as required by PM charts.
  • Record measurements and material usage accurately.
  • Document deviations via MRR process and participate in continuous improvement.

Job description

Position Summary

This position will be responsible to successfully perform all tasks associated with, and operate all equipment within, the bonding process (bond layup / de-flash / surface preparation), in either the fan blade or fan case value streams. Standard work methods and safe work habits must be followed to ensure conformance to customer requirements. This position reports to a Value Stream Manager and works under the direction of a Team Lead. This is a second shift position, Monday-Thursday, 3:15pm-1:15am.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform all tasks associated with the bonding process, including kitting, bond layup, vacuum bagging, autoclave setup, surface preparation and operation, and de-flash with the appropriate level of supervision.
  • Accurately follow step-by-step work instructions throughout the bonding process using a variety of computer systems.
  • Inspect all work in accordance with all applicable work instructions and shop procedures.
  • Perform all prescribed preventive maintenance (PM) on applicable equipment and processes as required per the PM charts.
  • Electronically record part parameters using measurement tools such as micrometers and calipers.
  • Precisely use hand tools such as razor blades, scalpels, hand sanders, and air/pneumatic tools.
  • Document material and process deviations through the approved Material Review Report (MRR) process.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement and corrective action processes.
  • Comply with all OSHA regulations related to these operations including but not limited to safety shoes, hearing and eye protection.
  • Handle and move hazardous materials, including waste, safely.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary

The starting salary for this position is $22 USD per hour, with an additional 10% shift differential. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, education, and other factors permitted by law.

Job Specifications
  • High school diploma or high school equivalency required.
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
  • Successful completion of relevant coursework in an accredited advanced manufacturing program may be substituted for manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with composite materials preferred.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude; familiarity with metric system preferred.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination, including the ability to manipulate small items with speed and accuracy and produce fine finish work.
  • Good organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with epoxy and adhesive materials.
  • Participate effectively in a team environment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills including data entry and keyboarding.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with AS9100C or ISO9001 standards preferred.
Working Conditions
  • Work performed in a plant environment; exposure to various elements but within acceptable limits.
  • Lighting and temperature adequate.
  • Eye protection worn in manufacturing areas (~90% of the work day).
  • Ear protection worn during certain operations (~10% of the work day).
  • Various moving parts and machinery common to manufacturing facilities.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Regularly required to stand and walk.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision.
