Job description

SUMMARY: The Composite Technician I works with aircraft parts using oven processes and vacuum techniques and maintain/repair components made of fiberglass.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Performs bonding of metallic or nonmetallic materials to fabricate parts and/or for repair applications using products and processes which are varied, but generally not complex in scope.
  2. Must read and interpret blueprints, drawings, manuals, specification sketches, job orders, planning documents and engineering drawings. Determines equipment requirements and the method and sequences of operation to be followed in fabrication of parts using materials such as graphite, fiberglass, plastic, epoxy resins, rubber and like materials.
  3. Plans, lay-outs, and builds adhesive bonded assemblies of metallic and non-metallic composite materials. Builds composites and metal parts into subassemblies for the purpose of pre-fitting in preparation for bonding, curing in press ovens, and autoclaves.
  4. Lay out, pre-fits, assembles, and performs lay-up on a variety of metal-to-metal and composite bonded assemblies. Fits core in where close tolerances are required for installation of details for completion of assembly.
  5. Performs vacuum bagging. Lay out and marks dimensions and reference lines on material to develop and trace patterns of product or parts or uses templates.
  6. Selects tooling and materials compatible with the processing techniques identified in the work instructions.
  7. Execute all required paperwork in connection with assigned normal duties.
  8. Use and operate ground support equipment, as applicable and if qualified, in a safe manner.
  9. Work with little or no supervision and accomplish assignments with little or no rework.
  10. Assist other employees in the performance of their job assignments through coaching, counseling, and guidance.
  11. Interface effectively with members of management, other departments, and co-workers.
  12. Follow all safety procedures and specifications.
  13. Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  14. Perform work within estimated hours.
  15. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. 2-3 years of experience in a composite repair/manufacture or aviation related metal bond composite environment.
  3. Ability to follow written and oral instructions and read and implement instructions from OEM drawings (in English).
  4. Experience in mixing and applying adhesive.
  5. Ability to utilize manufacturer’s manual and blueprints to properly identify and install fasteners used in assembly operations.
  6. Knowledge of repair station procedures and use of paperwork in relation to repair documentation.
  7. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  1. Technical Degree (Airframe and Powerplant Certification) or equivalent.
  2. 4+ years’ experience in aviation.
