Job summary

Belcan is seeking four Composite Operators to support aerospace manufacturing and new product introduction at ITT Aerospace Controls in Valencia, CA. These are first-shift, six-month contract-to-hire opportunities with the potential for direct employment based on performance and business needs.

You will build and assemble composite heater components, work with honeycomb, epoxy, and curing equipment, and collaborate with engineers on new designs and processes.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
  • At least two years of Composite Operator/Composite Technician experience.
  • Ability to read blueprints, drawings, routings, and work instructions.
  • Experience with adhesives, epoxies, composite materials, ovens, or curing equipment.
  • Ability to perform basic math and measure parts to tolerances.
  • Must be onsite in Valencia, CA and able to lift up to ~35 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble composite products using honeycomb, felt metal, inserts, adhesives, epoxies, rivets, and related materials.
  • Position and assemble components according to blueprints and instructions.
  • Support engineers in proving out new designs, tooling, and processes.
  • Perform layup, bonding, forming, curing, trimming, sanding, deburring, and finishing activities.
  • Operate ovens, fixtures, gauges, and hand tools; manage production equipment.
  • Record labor time and track parts through the manufacturing system.
  • Inspect materials and finished assemblies for cleanliness and conformance to specs.

Belcan is seeking four Composite Operators to support aerospace manufacturing and new product introduction at ITT Aerospace Controls in Valencia, CA. These are first-shift, six-month contract-to-hire opportunities with the potential for direct employment based on performance and business needs.

Position Summary

The Composite Operator will build and assemble composite heater components used in aerospace applications. This position involves working with composite materials, honeycomb, felt metal, inserts, adhesives, epoxies, rivets, tooling, ovens, and production equipment.

The Composite Operator will also work closely with engineers during new product introduction to evaluate drawings, tooling, manufacturing processes, and work instructions. This position is well suited for someone with hands-on composite fabrication, bonding, layup, curing, aerospace assembly, or structures experience.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Assemble composite products using honeycomb, felt metal, inserts, adhesives, epoxies, rivets, flanges, and related materials.
  • Position and assemble components according to blueprints, drawings, routings, and special instructions.
  • Support engineers in proving out new designs, tooling, manufacturing processes, and work instructions.
  • Perform composite layup, bonding, forming, curing, trimming, sanding, grinding, deburring, and finishing activities.
  • Use ovens, fixtures, gauges, test equipment, pneumatic tools, hand tools, belt sanders, grinders, drill presses, riveting machines, and hydraulic presses.
  • Measure components and completed assemblies to verify conformance with specified tolerances.
  • Inspect incoming materials and components for cleanliness, damage, defects, and proper identification.
  • Identify and document quality issues and nonconforming materials.
  • Complete rework on nonconforming products as directed.
  • Submit completed assemblies for in-process and final inspection.
  • Record labor time and production activity for each stage of the assembly process.
  • Track parts, materials, and completed work through the manufacturing execution system.
  • Handle adhesives, solvents, lubricants, epoxies, paints, inks, and other manufacturing chemicals safely.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area while following FOD-prevention requirements.
  • Return unused materials and parts to the appropriate stockroom location.
  • Maintain required production supplies and notify leadership of shortages.
  • Communicate work status, production concerns, quality issues, and progress to the supervisor.
  • Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and established manufacturing processes.
  • Recommend practical process improvements after learning and understanding ITT procedures.
Position Requirements
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • At least two years of Composite Operator, Composite Technician, composite fabrication, or related experience is preferred.
  • Candidates with transferable aerospace assembly, structures, bonding, or fabrication experience may also be considered.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, routings, work instructions, safety rules, and procedure manuals.
  • Experience using adhesives, epoxies, composite materials, production tooling, ovens, or curing equipment.
  • Ability to perform basic math and accurately measure parts to specified tolerances.
  • Ability to inspect work, identify defects, and accurately document production or quality information.
  • Strong attendance, reliability, safety awareness, and willingness to take direction.
  • Ability to adjust to changing priorities in a fast-paced aerospace production environment.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Must meet applicable U.S. export-control and program-access requirements.
  • Must be able to work fully onsite in Valencia, CA.
  • Must be able to stand and walk frequently and perform repetitive bending, reaching, and hands-on forming activities.
  • Must be able to lift and move materials weighing up to approximately 35 pounds. Team lifting will be used when appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Aerospace or defense composite manufacturing experience.
  • Composite layup, vacuum bagging, bonding, curing, oven, or autoclave experience.
  • Experience with honeycomb structures, felt metal, inserts, adhesives, epoxies, or bonded assemblies.
  • New product introduction, prototype manufacturing, or process-development experience.
  • Aerospace structures, mechanical assembly, or precision fabrication experience.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing execution systems, electronic work instructions, or production-tracking systems.
  • Experience with inspection, nonconformance documentation, and composite rework.
  • Experience working in a clean, environmentally controlled, or FOD-sensitive manufacturing area.
  • Composite manufacturing training or certification.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills.
