Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in Component Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Supplier Quality Engineering, or Supply Chain Engineering.
• Strong understanding of passive and active electronic components, datasheets, qualification methodologies, and reliability principles.

Responsibilities

• Review, evaluate, and approve electrical, electromechanical, and optoelectronic components for production use.
• Support component qualification, reliability assessments, and lifecycle management activities.
• Drive alternate source and multi-source component qualification efforts to reduce supply risk and improve availability.
• Assess component criticality and recommend qualification strategies in collaboration with engineering teams.
• Manage new part requests and maintain component data within PLM and approved vendor systems.
• Execute and support Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and Product Change Notifications (PCNs).
• Perform component-level failure analysis, derating reviews, and reliability assessments.
• Conduct BOM risk reviews and identify potential sourcing, lifecycle, and supply chain concerns.
• Partner with Strategic Sourcing, Manufacturing, and Engineering teams to resolve component shortages and supply issues.
• Work with suppliers and contract manufacturers to support qualification, technical reviews, and issue resolution.
• Develop data-driven recommendations to improve component selection, sourcing strategies, and engineering decision-making.
• Utilize AI-enabled tools, analytics, and data-mining techniques to identify trends, risks, and optimization opportunities.

Job Title: Component Engineer (Strategic Sourcing & Hardware Components)

Location: Sunnyvale, CA (Hybrid)

Duration: 12 Months (Potential Extension)

Employment Type: Contract W2

We are seeking an experienced Component Engineer to support hardware development and production programs by driving component qualification, supply continuity, and lifecycle management activities. This role will partner closely with Electrical Engineering, Strategic Sourcing, Manufacturing, and Suppliers to ensure components are qualified, available, cost-effective, and aligned with product requirements throughout the product lifecycle.

The ideal candidate will have a strong Electrical Engineering background, expertise in electronic components, and experience supporting high-volume hardware products from New Product Introduction (NPI) through sustaining.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in Component Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Supplier Quality Engineering, or Supply Chain Engineering.
• Strong understanding of passive and active electronic components, datasheets, qualification methodologies, and reliability principles.

Experience with:

• Component qualification and validation
• ECN and PCN processes
• Approved Vendor Lists (AVL)
• BOM management
• Hands-on experience with PLM systems such as Teamcenter, Agile, or similar platforms.
• Experience working with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and cross-functional engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting consumer electronics or other high-volume hardware products.
• Proven success implementing alternate source and multi-source qualification strategies.
• Experience driving cost reduction and supply continuity initiatives.
• Knowledge of reliability engineering concepts including derating, qualification testing, and failure analysis.
• Experience leveraging AI tools, analytics platforms, or data-mining solutions to improve engineering and sourcing decisions.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical and business stakeholders.
