Job summary

Mitsubishi Power Americas is seeking a Component Engineer for the Savannah Machinery Works site. You will own technical knowledge for gas turbine components, drive lifecycle management, and lead repair development, industrialization, and qualification efforts.

This role requires coordinating with Manufacturing, Quality, and Design teams to ensure safe, repeatable production and repair processes across the component lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials, Manufacturing, Metallurgical Engineering or related field.
  • Advanced education or specialized training in gas turbine technology preferred.
  • 10+ years engineering experience supporting gas turbine components across lifecycle, repair, and design.

  • Serve as technical authority for gas turbine component families, ensuring compliance with requirements.
  • Lead repair development, industrialization, qualification, and change management projects.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation including repair specs and process sheets.

Role Overview

Mitsubishi Power is hiring a Component Engineer for the Savannah Machinery Works location. The Component Engineer is responsible for the technical ownership, lifecycle management, industrialization, and continuous improvement of gas turbine components throughout manufacturing, repair, qualification, and field support activities. This position operates with limited supervision, serves as the technical authority for assigned component families, and provides engineering leadership in support of manufacturing, repair, quality, service, and customer requirements. The engineer is responsible for maintaining component technical knowledge, resolving complex technical issues, supporting nonconformance disposition activities, managing repair development and industrialization projects, and ensuring all technical documentation, specifications, and process requirements remain current and effective.

This role includes product configuration management, change management, qualification planning, manufacturing readiness, technical data integration, repair process development, and long-term product support. The position works closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, Design Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Automation Engineering, parent company engineering organizations, and customers to ensure safe, repeatable, and efficient production and repair of gas turbine components across their entire lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical authority for assigned gas turbine component families, ensuring compliance with engineering, quality, customer, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and expand technical expertise in component design, manufacturing, repair methods, inspection requirements, and field performance.
  • Lead the evaluation and disposition of component nonconformances, including repair, use-as-is, deviation, concession, acceptance, and release decisions.
  • Manage repair development, qualification, industrialization, and implementation projects from concept through production release.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including repair specifications, process sheets, work instructions, manufacturing standards, qualification plans, and technical reports.
  • Define repair scope and engineer product improvements that enhance safety, quality, reliability, manufacturability, repairability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Support new product introduction, repair qualification, testing, first article inspections, production readiness, and manufacturing implementation activities.
  • Maintain configuration control by managing component definitions, technical requirements, approved processes, product structures, and engineering changes.
  • Collaborate with Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, Service Engineering, customers, and parent company engineering teams to resolve technical issues and implement improvements.
  • Lead qualification and change management activities, ensuring changes are properly evaluated, documented, validated, approved, and released.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product quality, reliability, traceability, throughput, and engineering efficiency.
  • Prepare technical evaluations, reports, presentations, customer communications, and qualification documentation.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers and cross-functional teams to support sound engineering and business decisions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related technical field required.
  • Advanced education or specialized training in gas turbine technology, component repair, manufacturing processes, or lifecycle engineering preferred.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience supporting gas turbine components in areas such as component, repair, lifecycle, manufacturing, or design engineering.
  • Proven experience serving as a technical lead for component families, including nonconformance disposition, repair development, product and process industrialization, qualification activities, engineering change management, and configuration control.
  • Strong background working with manufacturing, quality, operations, customers, and global engineering organizations to support product qualification, production release, lifecycle support, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, specifications, technical reports, industry standards, and related documentation.
  • Strong technical writing, presentation, and communication skills, including preparing reports and presenting to customers, leadership, and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to analyze technical data, perform engineering calculations, and make sound decisions based on specifications, requirements, and engineering judgment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, SAP, Windchill, engineering databases, configuration management, quality management, and document control systems. Experience with PLM, manufacturing systems, and digital engineering tools preferred.
  • Travel up to 50% to support suppliers, equipment providers, manufacturing facilities, and parent company locations.
