Job summary

Qualifications

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under deadlines.
  • Regular, predictable attendance and willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coaching, guidance, and performance oversight to support team effectiveness.

  • Ensure consistent execution of reporting, filing, and billing processes.
  • Manage exceptions, resolve issues, and coordinate with stakeholders.
  • Analyze operational data to identify errors and gaps.
  • Oversee tax compliance activities including various tax types; ensure accuracy.
  • Develop and track KPIs to monitor accuracy and efficiency.
  • Implement workflow improvements to reduce risk.
  • Oversee customer billing processes and resolve discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to improve processes.
  • Maintain and update standard operating procedures.
  • Support audits and drive process enhancements.
  • Support projects to improve operational performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Position Summary:

Supervises daily operations of a high-volume compliance, reporting, and billing function. Ensures accurate and timely execution of processes across multiple entities by leading team performance, monitoring outcomes, and applying analytical insights to improve efficiency and consistency.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and performance oversight to support team effectiveness and accountability.

  • Monitor workloads and adjust priorities to meet deadlines and operational goals.

  • Ensure consistent execution of reporting, filing, and billing processes across business units and regions.

  • Manage exceptions, resolve issues, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders as needed.

  • Analyze operational data and reporting trends to identify errors, variances, and process gaps.

  • Oversee day-to-day tax team compliance activities including Sales and Use Tax, Heavy Vehicle Use Tax, Federal Excise Tax, Personal Property Tax, Fuel and Mileage Tax, ensuring work is completed accurately and on time.

  • Develop and track key performance metrics to monitor accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency.

  • Implement improvements to enhance workflows and reduce risk.

  • Oversee customer billing processes, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of discrepancies.

  • Partner with internal teams to address exceptions and improve processes.

  • Maintain and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) to reflect current practices and efficiencies.

  • Provide support for audits and collaborate on issue resolution and process enhancements.

  • Support projects and initiatives to improve operational performance.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred in Accounting. If no degree, equivalent work experience is required.

  • Minimum 3 years of tax compliance experience preferred.

  • Minimum 1 year of management/supervisor experience preferred.

  • Advanced Microsoft Office products with ability to manage external software applications

  • Intermediate skills in compliance processing and project management

  • Excellent communication and people skills. Ability to develop and manage a team.

  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.

  • Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job

  • Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are required.
