Job summary

Clean Harbors, Inc. offers a Compliance Specialist Intern position at our Deer Park incinerator site, where you will work in person with seasoned professionals and gain hands-on experience in environmental compliance.

The internship runs from May 2027 (May 17 or May 24) through August, with on-site work and exposure to EPA, CAA, and CWA regulations. Training emphasizes safety, project coordination, and data review across North America.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist Compliance Manager with reports and on-site inspections.
  • Review permits to understand conditions and limitations.
  • Archive old files as directed by Compliance Manager.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and summarize key updates.
  • Maintain environmental compliance files and notify incidents.

Clean Harbors is seeking a Compliance Specialist Intern to join our safety-focused team.

This internship is an in-person opportunity based at our Deer Park Incinerator and is not eligible for remote work. Interns will work alongside experienced professionals, gain exposure to our industry, and develop practical skills that support their academic and early career goals.

Start dates for our Summer 2027 Internship Program are May 17th or May 24th of 2027. Internships will run through the summer and end in August.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times;
  • Assist the Compliance Manager with the preparation of reports and conduct on-site inspections, in compliance with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act.
  • Responsible for archiving old files as directed by the Compliance Manager.
  • Review facility permits to gain an understanding of the permit conditions/limitations.
  • Keep abreast of the regulations/regulatory requirements by reviewing corporate compliance Q & A summaries describing regulatory changes.
  • Maintain environmental compliance files.
  • Notify Compliance Manager of incidents/accidents.

  • Enrolled in Environmental Science or Management Degree bachelor's program
  • Knowledge of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) laws/regulations
  • Critical thinking: ability to identify the right audience, message, and goals

  • Analytical mind; Intermediate PC/Excel skills Required, Advanced Excel skills a plus
