Compliance Project Specialist

Role: Coordinate compliance and support Project Management team, regulatory change initiatives, departmental action items, and ongoing Credit Union of America projects. Work alongside the Risk Manager, Compliance Officer, BSA Officer, department managers, business unit(s), and other stakeholders to support implementation of projects with regard to regulatory requirements, policy and procedure updates, system or vendor-related compliance initiatives, audit/exam corrective actions, and other departmental projects/CUA initiatives.
This position supports the organizational compliance framework by helping coordinate project deliverables, monitor timelines, document decisions, and maintain effective communication across applicable departments.

Essential Functions:

  • Advocate Compliance while coordinating projects and department initiatives, including maintaining project plans, timelines, milestones, task lists, and supporting documentation. Track assigned deliverables, follow up with responsible parties, and provide status updates to the Risk Manager, SVP Risk, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Assist with the maintenance and coordination of compliance program documentation, including policies, procedures, risk assessments, management reports, committee materials, regulatory tracking logs, audit/exam response documentation, and other compliance-related records.
  • Serve as a liaison between Risk Management, business unit(s), project owners, vendors, and other stakeholders to help ensure compliance considerations are communicated, implementation responsibilities are understood, and project-related issues are escalated timely.
  • Assist with external regulatory examinations, internal audit requests, and corrective action tracking, including gathering documentation, monitoring outstanding items, and supporting timely responses to management, auditors, or examiners.
  • Continue professional development through training and participation in professional organizations. Complete at least 20 hours of continuing education and training each year that contributes to professional proficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Employees shall be trained annually, demonstrate an understanding of and follow the requirements of the BSA/AML Compliance Program as it specifically relates to their job.

Knowledge & Skills:

Experience:Three years to five years of similar or related experience.

Education: (1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).

Interpersonal:Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.

Other Skills:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple projects or competing deadlines.
  • Ability to research and comprehend state and federal regulations applicable to financial institutions.
  • Common knowledge of risk management concepts, with emphasis on financial, operational, and regulatory activities.
  • Working knowledge and experience in internal audit functions preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and interpersonal skills required to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing software and comfort with the use of new technologies and software applications.
  • Working knowledge in all areas of accounting and audit procedures and the ability to work independently.
