Job summary

Navy Federal Credit Union is seeking a Compliance Officer to monitor, research, and interpret local, state, and federal laws and regulatory requirements impacting collections practices. The role supports policy development, conducts regulatory research, and communicates findings to leadership.

The position requires knowledge of FDCPA, UDAAP, TILA, FCRA, RESPA and related rules, plus strong written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications

• Compliance or legal analysis experience with lending and collections including FDCPA, UDAAP, TILA, FCRA, RESPA and related state laws.
• Ability to analyze statutes, regulations and case law, determine applicability and apply relevant facts.
• Knowledge of research methods and practices demonstrated by research, writing or education in a relevant subject.
• Strong interpersonal communication and persuasive skills.
• Ability to distill complex information and present findings clearly, orally and in writing.
• Proficiency with Lexis/Westlaw and internet research tools for legal research.
• Experience leading collaborative work teams and managing cross‑functional projects.
• Excellent oral and written presentation skills.
• Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and interpret local, state, and federal law and regulatory authority related to collections practices.
• Support policy formulation and analysis to ensure compliance with regulations.
• Research local, state and federal legislation, regulations, and cases and communicate recommendations to management.
• Develop compliance databases, trackers, and resources for the compliance library.
• Conduct compliance reviews across business units and advise on corrective actions.
• Lead training sessions and act as liaison on compliance matters.
• Prepare responses to regulators, audits, and member inquiries.
• Draft and review member communications to ensure legal compliance.
