JOB SUMMARY
Operates under moderate supervision to oversee and conduct comprehensive compliance assurance and effectiveness audits across various functions related to compliance, billing, and coding within UT Southwestern. This role involves executing fundamental assurance activities aimed at assessing the adherence of different departments, units, and programs to establish internal controls. Additionally, the role evaluates the fulfillment of education and training requirements and ensures compliance with organizational policies and procedures. By methodically reviewing operational processes, the auditor helps to identify areas for improvement and reinforces a culture of accountability and transparency within the institution.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or healthcare administration, regulatory compliance, consulting, project management, or related area.
  • 3 years of professional experience in a compliance-related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or directly related experience may be considered in lieu of stated requirements.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience in coding, auditing and/or compliance responsibilities.
  • The successful applicant must be a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or a Certified Medical Coder (CMC) and obtain the Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) within one (1) year of holding the position.

JOB DUTIES

  • Conducts relatively complex assurance/effectiveness reviews of compliance activities in accordance with appropriate standards, metrics, established compliance plan(s) and prescribed departmental/unit/program policies.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of compliance controls used by reviewed department/unit/program, as well as compliance with all applicable university policies and procedures.
  • Provides input to and assists in drafting compliance reports, including development of review findings and recommendations for specific remedial/corrective actions.
  • Develops testing sheets or work papers that provide comprehensive support for the work conducted, along with detailed findings and recommendations presented in compliance reports.
  • Assists in investigations of alleged breaches of policy, misconduct or other acts of non-compliance to determine the cause, extent of loss and mechanisms for prevention.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with compliance personnel to achieve objectives of assurance-related assignments.
  • Remains abreast of current developments in compliance.
  • Develops and maintains compliance-related education and training materials and, when necessary, conducts training sessions on compliance-related topics.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
