The Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center of Houston (ERJCC) is a multi‑faceted community center serving the Jewish and greater Houston community through programs in fitness, tennis, aquatics, theatre, and more.
Houston Gymnastics Center (HGC), housed within ERJCC, offers a full club‑style gymnastics program serving more than 450 participants in a 20,000‑square‑foot facility with state‑of‑the‑art equipment. Programs include preschool, recreational gymnastics, Xcel (Bronze through Sapphire), nationally competitive WAG and MAG teams from Levels 2–10, and a Trampoline & Tumbling program competitive through the international elite level.
HGC is accepting applications for a highly qualified and energetic women’s gymnastics coach for the Development Program, with a primary focus on beam and floor, for athletes from Level 2 through Level 10. This role oversees athlete development, routine construction, teaching compulsory routines on Beam and Floor for levels 2‑5, and developing competitive performance while maintaining a positive and healthy culture.
The role requires a balance of strong technical coaching ability, spotting ability, choreography skills, and coordination of meet registration and USAG meet entry processes.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Communicates clearly with athletes, parents, coaches, supervisors, and medical staff.
- Create training plans for all levels.
- Manage administrative tasks for competitive team, including the USAG Meet Reservation system and meet entries within the deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach/Demonstrate compulsory floor and beam routines to all compulsory levels 2‑5.
- Design and create choreography along with routine construction for all optional levels 6‑10.
- Design routines progressively and in coordination with overall training goals.
- Spot and assist gymnasts performing level 10 skills on beam and floor.
- Support gymnasts through the NCAA recruiting process.
- Help train and supervise incoming instructors to the program’s continued development and success.
- Demonstrate patience and positivity while working effectively with children of diverse ages, backgrounds and experience levels.
Communication
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with gymnasts of all ages and levels, parents, coaching staff, supervisors, and recreational coaching staff.
Agency Expectations
- Attend program staff meetings.
- Participate in agency‑wide in‑service training programs and requirements.
- Ability and willingness for frequent travel throughout the competition seasons (fall and winter/spring). Travel expenses and compensation are paid.
- Workday will consist of working after school hours during the week – no home‑schooling program; weekend will consist of Sunday team practice, or competitions during season.
- This is a 40‑hour‑per‑week position. Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience. The full‑time benefits package includes membership to the ERJCC fitness center, vacation and sick leave, and a 403(b) retirement plan.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a HS diploma or equivalent.
- 5 years coaching experience with Level 10s and proven experience developing gymnast over multiple seasons.
- Proficiency using MS Suite such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. and internet browsers.
- Excellent problem solving/judgment skills, and high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet all deadlines.
- Knowledge and experience in the USAG Development Program rules.
- Compliance with USAG Safe Sport requirements and current standing with USAG Professional Memberships, including CPR/First Aid certifications.
- Choreography skills for floor and beam.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50lbs. and work in a physically active, fast‑paced environment.
