Job summary

Solitude Mountain Resort in Utah is seeking a Competition Crew Lead for the Ski & Ride School. The role supervises a team to set up, operate, and dismantle race venues, handling fencing, timing systems, and staging areas, while supporting mountain operations during events.

Responsibilities include staff scheduling, inventory, and coordinating with mountain-operational counterparts. The position emphasizes safety, guest service, and teamwork in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

  • Availability on all Thursdays through Sundays from December through April.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Good communication, organization and teamwork skills.
  • Competence with computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain inventory of racecourse equipment and tools.
  • Schedule staff members in line with operational needs and budget.
  • Communicate effectively with counterparts in mountain operations.
  • Set-up/operate/maintain/dismantle a safe dual GS/SL course for NASTAR/Group races.
  • Set-up/maintain/remove a venue closure.
  • Set-up/operate/maintain/dismantle race finish area (timing equipment, fences, etc.).
  • Set-up/operate/maintain/dismantle race start area (banners, fencing, computers, etc.).
  • Coordinate staff during races, competitions, and other mountain events.
  • Maintain/operate race venue in a safe manner consistent with accepted practices.
  • Operate equipment and machinery in a safe manner following all Solitude Mountain Resort guidelines.
  • Provide quality guest service by working together as a cohesive, responsible team.
  • Provide guests with race venue information and other resort facts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Team Solitude Manager or Ski and Ride School Management.
  • Support with other on-mountain events.

JOB TITLE: Competition Crew Lead

DIVISION: Ski & Ride School

REPORTS TO: Teams Manager

LOCATION: Solitude Mountain Resort

CLASSIFICATION: Full Time/ Seasonal/ Hourly

PAY RATE: $25.00

Position

The Competitions Crew Lead is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of public and private race venues at Solitude Mountain Resort. In conjunction with the Head Alpine Race Coach they will oversee a team of Competition Crew staff to set up, tear down, and manage fencing, gates, rope lines, timing systems, and staging areas. In addition, crew members will provide support to mountain operations during competitions, events, and as needed.

Job Qualifications
  • Availability on all Thursdays through Sundays from December through April.
  • Advanced skiing/riding ability on groomed and ungroomed terrain. The ability to load/unload chairlifts and ski while carrying awkward/heavy loads
  • Desire and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to work well with others and provide quality guest services
  • Good communication, organization and teamwork skills required
  • Competence with computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Alpine ski racing and/or freeride skiing knowledge/experience preferred
  • Knowledge of ski race timing equipment and procedure desired but will train once hired

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • The primary physical environment in which this position works is out of doors with a high exposure level to cold, snow, wind, rain, bugs, sun, high altitude, extreme heights, lightning, etc...
  • Additional strenuous physical activity may include walking or hiking upon uneven, challenging terrain with equipment.
  • Exposure to: Ultraviolet radiation from the sun enhanced through lack of atmospheric filtration at work altitude.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors, and other employees.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
