Job summary

Roto-Rooter is seeking an experienced Lead Excavation Operator to join our team in Lafayette, IN. This role requires operating heavy machinery and supervising an excavation crew to ensure safety and high workmanship standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience operating heavy machinery in excavation or construction.
• Thorough understanding of excavation safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and utility location procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and site plans.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy machinery, including backhoes, excavators, and trenchers, to perform residential and commercial excavation services.
• Lead and supervise excavation crew members, providing guidance, training, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
• Coordinate daily jobsite activities, including setting up and maintaining work areas, traffic control, and utility location.
• Read and interpret blueprints, maps, and utility layouts to plan and execute excavations accurately.
• Collaborate with project managers and other team members to ensure the timely completion of projects.
• Conduct inspections to assess job progress, address issues, and ensure quality work.
• Maintain equipment, reporting any issues or maintenance needs.
• Provide excellent customer service by communicating with customers on job progress and managing any concerns.

Job Description : Roto-Rooter is seeking an experienced Lead Excavation Operator to join our team. This position requires a skilled operator who can not only handle heavy machinery but also manage and supervise an excavation crew. You will be responsible for overseeing excavation projects ensuring safety, and maintaining high standards of workmanship.

Key Responsibilities :

• Operate heavy machinery, including backhoes, excavators, and trenchers, to perform residential and commercial excavation services
• Lead and supervise excavation crew members, providing guidance, training, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols
• Coordinate daily jobsite activities, including setting up and maintaining work areas, traffic control, and utility location
• Read and interpret blueprints, maps, and utility layouts to plan and execute excavations accurately
• Collaborate with project managers and other team members to ensure the timely completion of projects
• Conduct inspections to assess job progress, address issues, and ensure quality work
• Maintain equipment, reporting any issues or maintenance needs
• Provide excellent customer service by communicating with customers on job progress and managing any concerns
• Competitive hourly wage between $30 - $40 per hour, additional compensation per dig, as well as overtime opportunities

Requirements

• Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) preferred
