Description
We are seeking a senior Compensation Specialist to lead strategic compensation initiatives for a highly respected, mission-driven research and technology organization supporting national security and advanced innovation. This role offers an outstanding opportunity to drive meaningful organizational change while working alongside HR and business leaders on enterprise-wide compensation programs.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and implement compensation programs, policies, and procedures
- Ensure compliance with federal and state compensation regulations
- Redesign and enhance job architecture, including job families, career levels, title governance, and FLSA classifications
- Analyze salary grades and compensation band structures using market data
- Conduct market pricing and internal equity analyses
- Build financial models to evaluate compensation changes and transition strategies
- Develop compensation administration guidelines, manager toolkits, and supporting documentation
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to successfully execute compensation initiatives
- Present recommendations and analytical findings to HR leadership and executive teams
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or a related field (Master's preferred)
- 8+ years of progressive compensation experience
- Strong expertise in compensation program design, job architecture and job leveling, salary structure design, market pricing, and compensation analysis
- Experience leading complex compensation or total rewards projects
- Experience working across cross-functional teams
- Strong project coordination and organizational skills
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, financial modeling, and data analysis
- Experience with major compensation survey platforms such as Radford/AON, Mercer, Pearl Meyer, or TSG
- Excellent analytical, presentation, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Compensation Professional (CCP)
- Experience with HRIS or compensation platforms such as SAP, SuccessFactors, or Payscale MarketPay
- Government contractor or federally funded research organization experience
- Familiarity with Department of Defense environments
- Experience supporting large-scale organizational compensation initiatives
