Job summary

Hillcrest Animal Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Missouri is looking for a Veterinary Assistant to assist veterinarians with patient care, including monitoring hospitalized pets, educating clients about veterinary care, and preparing patients for surgery. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, the ability to work weekends, and previous veterinary experience is preferred. Qualifications

• Ability to work on weekends as required.
• Previous veterinary experience preferred.
• Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds.
• Practice OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE.
• Basic math and the ability to calculate medication dosages.
• Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS office applications.
• Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in the practice of veterinary medicine and surgery.
• Assist veterinarians in outpatient exams.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs.
• Perform in-hospital laboratory testing and prepare specimens.
• Take, develop, and maintain radiographs.
• Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments.
• Clean and straighten exam rooms and treatment areas.
• Communicate with veterinarians and practice team members.
