Falls Road Animal Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Assistant for the day shift to support veterinarians and technicians. The role involves patient care, assisting with procedures, handling equipment, and performing clerical tasks in a fast-paced hospital.

Responsibilities include greeting clients, taking vitals, assisting with medications and restraints, running labs, radiographs, and maintaining accurate medical records.

Qualifications

• Experience working in veterinary hospitals is required.
• Experience in anesthesia monitoring is preferred.
• Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care to all patients.
• Greet patients and owners, record weights and vital signs upon arrival.
• Triage patients, perform exams, treatments, and administer medications as directed by licensed staff.
• Calm and soothe anxious patients.
• Assist doctors and technicians with medication administration or patient restraint.
• Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs.
• Operate and maintain hospital equipment (EKG, pumps, scales, monitors).
• Fill prescriptions, calculate medications, and maintain documentation for controlled drugs.
• Feed patients as prescribed and monitor appetite; report abnormalities.
• Communicate with clients to reassure and educate about insurance and wellness plans.
• Maintain hospital cleanliness and proper chemical handling; laundry duties.
• Bath and groom patients staying overnight; ensure clean release.
• Adhere to safety and wellness regulations; follow DVM/LVT directions.
• Maintain accurate medical records and daily presence as required.
• Promote hospital products and services; support organizational goals.
• Respond to directions with urgency.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Manager; possible duties in dentistry, surgery, emergency, radiology, etc.
