Job summary

PetVet Care Centers’ East Bay Veterinary Clinic in Oakland, CA seeks Veterinary Assistants to support veterinarians and technicians daily. Responsibilities include cleaning, restraining, feeding, and assisting in surgeries, with a focus on compassionate care for all patients and excellent client service.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to restrain animals and monitor sedation procedures.
• Able to work with sick animals and handle cleaning chemicals, hazardous materials, and odors.
• Knowledge of hospital procedures, policies, and services; client and patient treatment protocols; hospital computer systems.
• DEA license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care to all patients.
• Greet patients and owners; weigh patients and record vital signs on arrival.
• Assist doctors and technicians with exams, treatments, and medication administration as directed by licensed staff.
• Calm and soothe anxious patients; assist with patient restraint as needed.
• Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs; operate and maintain equipment.
• Maintain accurate medical records and logs; ensure proper documentation and security of controlled drugs.
• Maintain hospital cleanliness and safety; handle equipment, kennels, and facilities daily.
• Promote hospital products and services and support the organization.
• Respond promptly to directions from DVM or LVTs; perform other duties as assigned.
