Job summary

Canyon Creek Family Vet in Sherman, TX seeks a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians in patient care, lab work, and client education. You will help with outpatient exams, surgery prep, sample collection, and radiographs, ensuring compassionate care for every animal.

Candidates should have weekend availability; prior veterinary experience is preferred, and the role requires ability to lift up to 25 pounds with assistance. OSHA PPE protocols apply.

Qualifications

• Ability to work on weekends as required.
• Previous veterinary experience preferred.
• Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; with assistance over 25 pounds.
• OSHA safety techniques and PPE use.
• Basic math for medication dosages and basic MS Office familiarity.
• Strong communication skills for patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in patient care and surgery when needed.
• Take histories, vital signs, and weights during outpatient exams and educate clients.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor during procedures.
• Collect samples and perform in-house lab work; prepare specimens for outside labs.
• Obtain radiographs following safety procedures and maintain equipment.
• Handle and restrain animals during exams and administer medications as directed.
• Keep exam and treatment areas organized; restock supplies and support team.
