Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Special Needs Childcare Assistant and Therapist Support for a childcare facility in Welkom, Free State. The role involves direct care, implementing IEPs, and assisting therapists during sessions for children with diverse needs.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team, promoting inclusive care, documenting progress, and supporting families while upholding safety and compassion.

Qualifications

• Experience with children with special needs (e.g., autism, ADHD).
• Qualification in childcare or special education preferred.
• Ability to follow guidance from therapists.
• Patience, empathy and resilience.
• Strong observation and documentation skills.
• Reliable, punctual and team player.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and supervision for children with special needs.
• Assist in implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and therapy goals.
• Support occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other specialists during therapy sessions.
• Engage children in structured activities designed to promote development, independence, and social skills.
• Assist with personal care needs, including feeding, hygiene, and mobility.
• Monitor children's progress and document observations for therapists and management.
• Maintain a safe, organized environment for the children.
• Communicate with therapists, educators, and parents regarding progress and needs.
• Promote a positive and inclusive atmosphere.
