Job summary

Gallup-McKinley County Schools is seeking a Special Education Educational Assistant Personal Care Assistant for Del Norte Elementary. This 7.5-hour day role supports the IEP goals, assists with daily lesson plans, and supervises students to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.

Applicants must have a High School Diploma or equivalency and a Level I Educational Assistant License, with a valid driver’s license. First Aid and Food Handler permits may be required.

• Knowledge of cultural diversities of the local area and Native American beliefs.

Responsibilities

• Assist specialist/professional in delivering the educational plan and meeting IEP goals.
• Assist in implementing daily activity lesson plans and curriculum as developed in the IEP by appropriate specialist.
• Maintain and attach supporting documentation; ensure confidentiality of all records.
• Assist students individually or in groups with lesson assignments to reinforce concepts.
• Operate classroom equipment and assistive technology.
• Supervise students during drills, assemblies, lunch, and field trips.
• Assist physically challenged students with eating, dressing, personal hygiene and mobility functions.
• Provide special medical needs of students.
• Provide close supervision for students with behavior problems and support the teacher's management system.
