Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Human Services, Norristown State Hospital, is seeking a Psychiatric Aide to provide direct patient care and support in a 40-hour work week. The role focuses on daily living assistance, observation, and emergency response within a hospital setting.

Responsibilities include aiding patients’ daily activities, monitoring behavior, and documenting observations for nursing staff. Overtime and rotating shifts are required; telework is not available.

Qualifications

• Six months of experience in care, activities and personal guidance of individuals with mental health or physical illness or disabilities.
• Certification as a Nurse Aide or Nursing Assistant through the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
• Successful completion of the Aide Trainee program or equivalent Commonwealth Federal job title as determined by the Office of Administration.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct, patient-centered care under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.
• Assist patients with daily living activities and personal hygiene.
• Monitor patient behavior and report changes to nursing staff.
• Respond to medical or psychiatric emergencies following established procedures.
