Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current Phlebotomy Technician Certification preferred plus specialized certifications as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the physical condition of the site to be used for blood collection; selects appropriate equipment and collects blood from adults, children and infants.
  • Verifies orders, identifies patients, calculates quantities for diagnostic studies, and labels specimens per policy.
  • Monitors patient condition during phlebotomy and maintains supply levels.
  • Adheres to standard precautions and administrative guidelines for ambulatory labs and pre-admission testing.
  • Instructs patients on collection procedures and processes specimens to proper lab areas.
  • Communicates problems to supervision and restocks lab supplies.
  • Determines blood work requirements for elective procedures as per policy.
  • Performs related duties as required; all essential under the ADA.
